LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. - A man with car trouble is in trouble after shooting five rounds into the hood of his Chrysler "to put my car out of its misery."
John McGivney, 64, shot his 1994 LeBaron with a .380-caliber semiautomatic, Broward County sheriff's deputies said.
When the property manager at his apartment complex asked what he was doing, McGivney said, "I'm putting my car out of its misery." He tucked his gun in a pocket and went back inside.

Actually, the interior wasn't too bad for me - it was a comfy ride (when it actually drove haha). I didn't notice too much about the roof per se. However, the paint over the entire car seemed to either be of poor quality, or it had succumbed to the effects of acid rain over the years.

Nope. I used to shoot .380 ball at a dump.
Wouldn't even penetrate old highway signs.

John McGivney, 64, shot his 1994 LeBaron with a .380-caliber semiautomatic Not enough gun. Maybe Texas Cowboy could loan him his .50. That would surely put the car out of its misery.

I used a Carbon FMJ .380 in a Baretta; couldn't hit squat.

"I think every guy in the universe has wanted to do it," McGivney told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "It was worth every damn minute in that jail."
Yup.

A 30-30 would be more appropriate for a LeBaron. You're liable to just wound the poor thing.

Well, you might want to study the thickness and density of a highway sign in a dump versus the thickness and density of the skin on a car. A barefoot kid can kick in the side of a car. Then you may want to join the NRA, and read ballistic tables.

I had this good friend, Bill, who had a car that was an absolute disaster. Probably cost him $100 back in '76. I don't remember make or model. There was a cable inside it holding the engine in place. He'd once hit a pheasant and left the blood on the car, never washed it. Anyhow, when this poor old heap was on it's last wheel, he drove it up to the Rod and Gun Club and parked it downrange. The locals got a chance to shoot it up for a month or so, then he had it dragged to the junkyard.
