I did. I didn't think the cardinals would put a 78 year old cardinal who wanted to retire two years ago in the most stressful job in the Catholic Church.
It's the equivalent of George W. Bush nominating a 78 year old to the Supreme Court.
But, we should all pray for him. He has a very difficult job and stands in the shadow of one of the greatest popes of all time.
"It's the equivalent of George W. Bush nominating a 78 year old to the Supreme Court."
Well, it's the equivalent of GWB nominating a 78 year old to the court with the intellect of Rehnquist/Scalia and Thomas combined.....someone like that could be a one man wrecking ball on the court. THAT is more like what this is.
Incidentally and I hope no one is offended by this, but, I just have to see a small parallel here in this: remember when Cheney was in charge of the VP selection? Ha, look how that turned out.
As I understand it, Ratzinger sort of presided over the election. Guess he did ok.
This is just very compelling, exciting stuff. Flipped through my Malachi Martin and he seemed to think that Ratzinger is to the right of JPII.
We shall see!
Dear sinkspur,
"It's the equivalent of George W. Bush nominating a 78 year old to the Supreme Court."
Perhaps.
It would be a blessing if he were to prove to be the Hammer of the heretics.
