I'm not ashamed and it's a question that deserves an answer. Another poster put up a really good article from the Jerusalem Post that explains the matter thoroughly. I don't believe he is a Nazi today or an anti-semite, of that I've seen no evidence. But I think an explanation of his past is not only expected but warranted. He is open about the question, who are you to berate me?
The good news about him is that he is going to really p*** off the liberals. I am overall satisfied, I think however Jean-Marie Luster would have been a better choice.

You are nothing but contemptable slime. Give it a rest. Do you think it's funny for a piece of garbage like you to be joking about being Pope?
It's not. It's disgraceful. If you came anywhere near the Pope you would burst into flames and go to the hell that you so richly deserve.

God bless Pope Benedict XVI. He's got a hard act to follow....

Interesting word I've never seen before: casuistry. Seems like this is the accurate word, not cauistry:
2 entries found for casuistry.

Why do they choose such old Pope's? His health will become an issue before too long then they'll have to go through the process again.
Two reasons: 1) Pope Benedict XVI's age made him a more viable choice, as the Cardinals often like to take a bit of a breather after a long, active, monumental papacy, such as John Paul II's. Being 78 means he probably won't stick around for 20-25 years. 2) Since the cardinals themselves are usually older, you're not likely to see a 40-something Pope. Of course, JP2 was only 58.

On DU, the very first word after it's Ratzinger is the F curse.
It's really sad when you think about it with the mind of Christ. Not that they don't do it to themselves, and deserve it, but life must be a bitter burden when you spend it angrily set against God and his ways. Jesus wept over such as them. As we should pray for them.

Quix is kind of the de facto prophecy guy on the FR religion forum, but here is what I dug up (still looking for the exact thing).
My preferred translation for general study is the New Oxford annotated RSV. It has all of the various Apocrypha books of the Roman Catholics, and a few of the others such as Maccabees 3 and 4.
In one of those non canonical (by anyone) books, a mention was made of the great Eagle from across the sea that would not be on the side of the people of God.
Quix, I also think you posted something about that once, but I am pressed for time and can't find it! I will dig deeper later, but wanted to give AandD and AliVeritas a quick answer.

I know I'm late to the party, but one thought strikes me: isn't this a rather fast Papal election?
The average time in the past 100 years has been three days. Word has it that Ratzinger had 50 votes already going into the conclave, and he only needed 77 or so total. I heard two speculations on the final vote, that he got 81 or 91 votes of the 115.
I'm just thrilled with the choice, no matter how fast it was!

According to my friend just now, the "on this rock" speech was NOT said by Jesus, but by his followers. I told her this was the first I'd hear of that theory! Her reference is a "history of Catholicism" but I theorized that it was a "liberal" version.

Hey Laz, I think you are confused in all the excitement. Your girlfriend called....you've been declared POP, not Pope. Look at it this way, you still get to be a father.
To: Lazamataz
Looks like you struck a nerve.

Dear Darkwolf,
Well, like I said, I've never been impressed by Jesus Seminar types.
Your friend may believe what she wishes, as it is a free country.
However, what she believes is not Catholicism.
How old is she?

She's around 40.
I don't mean to bother you with this, I am not even a Catholic. But it's perplexing, because she seems to be arguing against everything that the Catholic church stands for, but is claiming it's the CHURCH that's defying the church's foundations. Thanks for your answers.

There IS a "Catholicism for Dummies". But if you are looking for an official summary, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the real scivy and not THAT hard to understand. Question and Answer format.
