NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man was beaten to death after catching his wife's lover living in a closet in their home, police said Tuesday.
Rafael DeJesus Rocha-Perez, 35, was charged with homicide in the slaying of 44-year-old Jeffrey A. Freeman over the weekend.
"From time to time, you come across a case with very unique - even bizarre - circumstances," police spokesman Don Aaron said. "This one probably rates right up there with them."
Freeman's wife had allowed Rocha-Perez to live in a closet of the Freemans' four-bedroom home for about a month without her husband's knowledge, police said. On Sunday, her husband heard Rocha-Perez snoring and discovered him, authorities said.
Freeman ordered his wife to get the man out of the house while he went for a walk, authorities said. Martha Freeman told authorities that when her husband returned, Rocha-Perez confronted him with a shotgun, forced him into a bathroom and bludgeoned him.
The Freemans were co-owners of a company that does background checks for apartment rental and job applicants.

I think I heard the closet hidey hole was also the storage place for the husband's guns. The neighbors in the area say the closet-dude was a Mexican boxer. The murderer hid in the rafters of a nearby house (still under construction) for over two hours while the owner of the new house walked around and made decorating decisions. The owner heard a noise in the attic but thought it was an animal. When the police banged on the door and said there had been a murder nearby, they directed the police to the attic and the rest is history.
Hollyfeld? Lazlo Hollyfeld?
Anyone know what movie that's from?
Man, you nailed it Blind Mellon jelly Conspiracy Guy..........
Actually now I'm begining to question the 'guy in the closet' story as well.
My husbands the one who really picked up on the validity of it all.
Thanks. I'm just that good! ; )
ROTF......
From local media sources:
"Police say that Jeff Freeman ordered the suspect to leave after discovering him inside the closet. Not long afterward, police say Rocha-Perez allegedly grabbed the family's shotgun and forced Mr. Freeman into a bathroom, where he beat him and strangled him to death. Authorities say that Martha Freeman was on the other side of the bathroom door while the alleged murder was taking place.
News 2 has learned that there are inconsistencies in the timeline of the murder. Sources say that Jeff Freeman died late Sunday night or early Monday morning, but the police weren't notified for almost half a day, at 3:30 pm Monday. The question authorities now have is - where was Mrs. Freeman and what was she doing?
According to Metro Police, Martha Freeman was not being held against her will and she was not being threatened. Numerous sources told News 2 she even left the home a couple of times to run errands, such as walking the dog.
Martha Freeman has not yet been charged with any crime. Police say she's been cooperating with investigators, but Rocha-Perez has not yet answered their questions. Authorities say that the Freemans were having marital problems and slept in separate bedrooms. They have no children and shared a business together."
ROTFLMAO
????
Every story tells a song.
Ok folks, here's what I wanna know. Who has enough room in their closet for any to hide in, much less live there?
Crazy? I think 90% of Freepers would do what you suggest.
From another local media source: it appears that a neighbor, not the wife, actually called the police, as evidently the wifey was a bit "conflicted" as to what to do next!
"Neighbor Raegene Beverley told The Associated Press on Tuesday that she made the 911 call, describing Martha Freeman as a friend, but declined to talk about the crime. .."
Gotta go home and check my closets. .45 ACP cocked and locked.
Later
"Who has enough room in their closet for any to hide in, much less live there?"
You have never seen 300 sq ft walk in closets?
: )
Wrong..see, the closet was rent controlled, and the husband wanted to raise the rent to market rate, so the tenant got frustrated and blew him away..
Good thing he is used to living in cramped quarters....should make the transition to prison life easier.
