My understanding is that the Police do not use Dobies. Dark hair too hot in summer heat; single coat too cold in winter. Stake Outs apparently require the thick double coated animals like the GSD.

Some departments do use Louis Doberman's dogs for work...they are also preferred by some of the world's police as well. Also used are Aerdales, Belgian shepherds, and some of the bigger working dog breeds.
