I remember the original intent of the Baygen Radio, the one you wind up and the clock spring runs an internal generator to power an AM/FW/SW radio, was to provide dirt poor people of the world some form of communication for events like these and so on. Would be perfect in this situation, you don't have to worry about batteries. I think newer radios do have a solar cell along with being about to use battery or mains power but you still have the windup generator.
