I understand that the law, as written, sounds like a bill of attainder, written specifically for Terri Schiavo. However, the arguments being made are about federal review of a case where a state court decrees death by removal of feeding tubes. The argument is around Michale Schiavo' rights as husband, vs. the rights of those who gave Terri Schiavo life in the first place. And, if this law passes, it will be used as precedent regardless of what the language says.
I'm trying to understand why the Democrats are so insistent in this case, and why Barney Frank is the House leader on this issue. I'm surmising that the slippery slope, as the Democrats see it, leads to AIDS patients.
