A day in the life of President Bush (2/6/05): many photos
Yahoo News Photos & WhiteHouse.gov ^ | 2/6/05

CAUTION: MANY PHOTOS. MAY TAKE AWHILE TO DOWNOAD.

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady attended St. John's Church, as has become their routine while in Washington, then returned to the White House. The Vice President and Secretary of Defense appeared on the Sunday morning news interview programs to discuss Iraq and Social Security.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: The President speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington Feb. 3, 2005.

"This morning reminds us that prayer has always been one of the great equalizers in American life. Here we thank God for his great blessings in one voice, regardless of our backgrounds. We recognize in one another the spark of the Divine that gives all human beings their inherent dignity and worth, regardless of religion.

Through fellowship and prayer, we acknowledge that all power is temporary, and must ultimately answer to His purposes. And we know that affirming this truth is particularly appropriate in the heart of a capital built upon the promise of self-government.

PHOTOS TAKEN TODAY: The President and Mrs. Bush arriving for church. Some "Dosers" have commented in the past about the First Lady's right pinky finger and how she crooks it from time to time. In this photo it's clear to see that either the finger is arthritic or it may have been broken at some time in the past (or both). In any case, she looks lovely in that hot pink outfit.

The President says something that makes Rev. Dr. Luis Leon laugh as they chat while exiting St. John's this morning.

The President waves to reporters while a Secret Service agent holds the limo door open for him. Speaking of the Secret Service, the presidential detail often changes with the start of a new administration. Not sure yet, but I believe the President has a new lead agent.

Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld made the rounds of the Sunday morning news talk shows. Here, the Vice President arrives at the Fox News building in Washington. GWB says he doesn't read the newspapers. Looks like the VP reads them all for both of them, LOL! On a more serious note, in response to a question, the VP categorically ruled out a run for the White House in 2008, even if -- as the question was framed -- asked by the President to do so.

Here the VP gestures to make a point while on "FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace."

Our Rummy is such fun when he goes on these shows and spars with the liberal fat heads. These photos are from his appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation" this morning.

If the old media thinks they have this man cowed, they darned well better think again.

Rummy looks like he's about ready to karate-chop someone, LOL! (I guess Barney flushed Ted Kennedy out of the WH, and the old sot wound up on the CBS set.)

A particularly nice photo of the President and his daughter, Barbara, taken as they left the White House, Thursday.

Last evening, ohioWfan recommended that today's Dose should include a retrospective on the State of the Union event. So following is a photo essay that tries to give a sense of the entire panorama, and tells the story of what is sure to be one of the most memorable SOTU events ever. I mean, this one had it all: spectacle, drama, pathos and humor (intentional and otherwise). Enjoy...

Overview of House chamber, view looking to the front. Balcony runs around the entire chamber. The First Lady's box is to your right as you view the photo. (Out of camera range to the right.)

This overview looks toward the back of the chamber, toward the Democrat side of the aisle. In the great 1939 movie, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," the girl reporter in love with Sen. Smith (the great James Stewart) sat in the front row of the balcony near the clock secretly encouraging and passing messages to Sen. Smith as he filibusters a crooked bill. Anyone who wants to know what a classic filibuster is, see this film.

Looking toward the Republican side of the aisle. They are giving him a standing ovation while the Dems sit in their tushes. As the President discussed Social Security reform, some back-bench House Dems groaned and walked out. (Too bad.)

President is introduced. As is custom, all rise to applaud the President at this time, because they are actually honoring the office.

The President and Vice President both look over at the Dem side of the aisle as the Republicans cheer and the Dems groan. (A smirk from GWB and a sh#t-eating grin from the VP.)

The President laughs and the Vice President smiles as their fellow Republicans cheer.

The President looks toward Dem side of aisle.

The President makes a forceful point as he looks toward the Republican side of the aisle.

A view from the floor -- center aisle -- of the chamber as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice applauds.

Members of the President's Cabinet, from left: Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Treasury John Snow, Labor Secretary Elaine Chao and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice applaud.

I watched a re-run of part of the speech in C-Span this morning because Fox was not on. It was even better than I thought when I heard it on Wednesday.
