Our Lady of Fatima appearance is considered by most Catholics to be a true appearance of Mary, but most non-Catholics do not believe in this.
There are numerous incidents around the world that are believed in by Catholics and others as true appearances of Mary or as signs of Mary, like the "Weeping Statute".
I've heard of this statute before, but like I said, haven't really paid much attention.
I'm sure someone here could tell us the story of the "Weeping Statute." As long as there is proper decorum, I see no problem with having the weeping Mary at the vigils, just not in Terri's rallies, where people of various backgrounds supporting Terri will be present.
Obviously, it gives the Schindler's some peace, or it wouldn't be there.

FR, I am well aware of many of Mary's apparitions, am a BIG BELIEVER in them, have read many books and articles about them and have closely followed them at various points in my life.
But as a Catholic, one is NOT REQUIRED BY THE FAITH to believe in them. And many Catholics (as well as many non-Catholics), DON'T!
This is not just a Catholic issue. And Catholics should be aware of that, particularly when considering the court of public opinion. Terri's case has dire consequences for people of all faiths, for people who are not religious and even for those who disagree with us whether they realize it or not.

I agree re the statue: it's okay at the vigils, but bearing in mind that persons of all beliefs are in this fight, perhaps not best to bring it to the forefront.
