Sounds like good stock--except for that "John The Strange" character. Wonder how he earned that name?

Anne Marbury was a direct descendant of Anglo-Norman nobleman John the Strange, and before him Gilbert the Red, Gilbert de Clare, count of Gloucester and Hereford.

Sounds like a Monty Python skit.

So are they saying that he comes from a long line of illegal aliens and should cut his contemporaries some slack?

I'm from Wexford (and live less than 20 miles from New Ross). Strongbow isn't remembered here as a character to be vilified. In fact, when we learned about him in school he was something of a romantic character. His romance with Aoife was kinda cool.

My ancestors came to Ireland as Normans from Normandy in the invasion. They weren't noblemen, though, just clerks (tho' that was a good position in those days and required education).

Mr. Bush is also descended from Anne Marbury Hutchinson, an English Puritan who arrived in America in 1634 aboard the Griffin and who settled in Boston.

I knew without seeing a genealogy chart that Bush ancestors were here from the beginning. It's written all over him in ways I cannot explain but can see clearly. Our president really and truly with every fiber of his being wants to defend and protect the USA and spread freedom.

I am supposedly descended from Elizabeth Plantagenet. Edward I was "Longshanks" of Braveheart fame. Joan was his second child. Elizabeth was his 12th.

Whatcha gonna do about those old, wild genes! I am descended from King Haakon, through Somerled, got all these raging, politically incorrect, wild barbarian antecedants!
In other words, I can't help it, it is My destiny! If You have an urge to be queer, O.K., must be YOUR genes.
I have an urge to be really free, sorry, I just can't help it. It is My fate!
BUAIDH NO BAS, MACDHUGAILL FOREVER!
There are two distinct varieties of Homo Sapiens on this Earth, one of them is gonna have to to go away! I take strength from the knowledge that My President comes from good stock. Thank God no one is talking about "French Connections"

So, does this mean the next time the left attack W and call the Iraq war just a needless invasion, we can say "Well, he couldn't help it, it's in his genes."? Thereby totally disarming the left because, after all, isn't that the way they think? "Well, if it is genetic, then that's OK."

There was two De Clare sisters who married one, on my dads side, and the other on my moms side. The whole works also intermarried, often cousins to cousins over and over again.
It was the Bruces who gained control over the Scottish Crown who also were Normans-which actually means "Norse Men" if broken down. The Bruce name back then meant "The Cadet" or something like that.

Lots of problems in heridity over that interbreeding..for a lack of better word.

So in short, Bush can ID himself with all the royals in England and Europe as can about fifteen bejillion other people. A very large majority of folks that came over in the 1600s were of noble birth in someway. Being a lot were Puritans, they left to escape the persecutions. Remember that Oliver Cromwell was around and all at that time. After he started to loose power, they were worried about another Bloody Mary episode and got out fast and rightly so as they really got to waring within the UK with the covenanters and all that.

But Irish historian Ann Griffin Bernstorff found the Irish genealogical link by working on the Ross, one of the biggest tapestries in Europe that retraces the birth of New Ross, founded in 1207 by William Marshall, son of Strongbow.

Eleanor de Clare married Hugh DeSpencer who is on my moms side

Margaret de Clare married Hugh De Audley who daughter married into the Staffods of Staffordshire England.

Of Course of Gilbert might have had several wives..gonna have to look into this bit of history

Wish the hell I knew of whom I descended - I'd like to kick his / their tail(s) - their genes aren't worth a damn - 'course I've done as little with 'em as possible.

Aw, it is good to be able to blame someone for your shortcomings!

My wife is also a direct descendant of William Marshal and Isabella de Clare. They had nine children, to my knowledge and there are probably millions of people in the US today who are descendants of these two.
