Yes, you're right. Its been several years since I have read that book and I am thinking of going to my library and borrowing it to re-read.

As an aside, I am always pleased by the level of knowledge and education of commentors on Free Republic. While some in the MSM may complain of sitting in our living rooms in pajamas, most of those making comments on Free Republic are very well read and intelligent. Joachim Fest's book is a case in point. I did not think his book was that widely read but since making my one comment on his history I have received numerous comments back from Freepers who have read his book.

So virulent racism CAN exist on the Left. Most Leftists are just dishonest about acknowledging it, that is all. They think that by relabelling it they perform some sort of magic trick that makes it go away. They try to hide the fact that Nazism is the ugly twin of modern-day Leftism.
