You couldn't have said it better! DH & I have SIX retired parents (four natural, two steps) and they are scared to death that they're going to lose their cash cow, though all are rollin' in the dough from investing wisely for their retirement in the first place.
I cannot convince any of them of the fact that the changes are not going to effect them at all, while benefiting me. And in reality, if we younger generation are allowed to open our own accounts, don't look for more than 4% of your earnings to be freed up anyway. For me, that's not enough! I want ALL of my money invested as I see fit!
As usual, it's the left doing two things; saying there is no crisis (even when they rallied behind Klinton on this exact subject in 1998!), yet making sure they use fear tatics to point the finger at the other guy. Same old, same old.

First of all the AARP does not represent the people who are in their older years. They have turned into a massive insurance organization that lobbies for left-wing causes. I draw social security but I know that to protect my grandchildren the system must be privatized. I have written the AARP but the only reply that I get is lies.

The truth is closer to:
"Just give me (all your payroll taxes), say the(thieving politicians). "Who cares about (the old or the young who will eventually grow old).
It is so easy for the politicians to pit black against white and rich against poor. Why not the young against the old? They have been stealing the payroll taxes and spending it on pork, to buy votes. So now it is the greedy old geezers.
I say not one more farm subsidy... not one more dollar in foreign aid or dues to the UN. Not one more public works project or grant... nothing - 'nada'.
Then after 10 years, lets see how many benefits need to be cut.

Hey, It isn't like they have contributed to the program a large part of their income for more than fifty years. What right do retired people have to expect that the government will honor its pledge. /Sarcasm off
You people make me want to puke.

Maybe instead of placing the blame on the "Greedy Geezers" you blame should be directed to our wonderful elected officals who have replaced the funds collected for SS with worthless IOU's
If the money collected was kept in this account and invested correctly, and not stolen, SS would be so huge that retires would be like our elected officals and get more money when they retired than when they worked.
