SpongeBob, Barney promote 'gay tolerance (FedEx to Sponsor in Gov't Schools)
WorldNetDaily ^ | January 6, 2005

Posted on 01/08/2005 7:02:35 AM PST by NYer

In a new video to be distributed to 61,000 schools across the nation, homosexual activists are using popular children's TV characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Barney the dinosaur to surreptitiously indoctrinate young children into their lifestyle, a pro-family activist group charges.

SpongeBob Squarepants is one of the popular children's TV characters appearing in a new 'tolerance' video.

Based on the 1970s hit song "We Are Family," the video will be distributed to public and private elementary schools nationwide March 11, along with lesson plans for teachers, points out the American Family Association.

The distribution, sponsored by FedEx, will coincide with the video's broadcast March 11 on Nickelodeon, PBS, and the Disney Channel in celebration of the proposed National We Are Family Day.

AFA researcher Ed Vitagliano sees the project as an "open door" to a secondary discussion of homosexuality, noting the the foundation has a "tolerance pledge" on its website that children and others are encouraged to sign, which includes sexual orientation. [Editor's note: This story previously linked to the website of a group that has the same name but no connection to the video. WND regrets the error.]

"While we want everyone to respect other people's beliefs, we do not consider it appropriate for children's television to be used in an effort to indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality," he said.

Vitagliano says the foundation is employing a bait-and-switch approach, with popular children's figures such as Arthur, Dora the Explorer, JoJo, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Big Bird and Bob the Builder.

The objective is to get children to the foundation's website "and there they're given the full pitch about homosexuality," he said.

Video producer Christopher Cerf called the video an "unprecedented event."

"For the first time characters from all of the important kids shows came together to appear in the same video," he said in a November news release. "The producers and performers from each show embraced the spirit and message of this project."

The We Are Family Foundation was founded by singer-songwriter Nile Rodgers, who wrote the hit song recorded in 1979 by Sister Sledge.

The video was financed by a grant from the Toni Mendez Shapiro estate.

"Cooperation and unity are the most important values we can teach children," Rodgers said. "We believe that this is the essential first step to loving thy neighbor."

The We Are Family Foundation says its partners in the production are the Anti-Defamation League, Crown Theatres, Disney Channel, FedEx, Nickelodeon, HIT Entertainment, Nile Rodgers/Sony Publishing/The Bernard Edwards Estate/Warner Chapel, Nelvana, PBS, Scholastic, Sesame Workshop, Toni Mendez Shapiro Estate, and WGBH-TV in Boston.

A Federal Express spokesman said the company is "proud" to provide shipping for the project.

"Promoting diversity is part of our corporate culture at FedEx," said William G. Margaritis, senior vice president, worldwide corporate communications.

Characters appearing in the video are from award-winning shows including "Arthur," "Barney," "Bear in the Big Blue House," "Between the Lions," "Blue's Clues, Bob the Builder," "The Book of Pooh," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Dora the Explorer," "Jimmy Neutron," "JoJo's Circus," "Kim Possible," "Lilo & Stitch: The Series," "Little Mermaid," "Madeline," "The Magic School Bus," "The Muppet Show," "The Proud Family," "Rugrats," "Sesame Street," "SpongeBob SquarePants," and "Zoom."

The video also features cameo appearances by entertainers Bill Cosby, Diana Ross and Whoopi Goldberg.

Even Christians should believe in teaching "respect" for others even if you don't agree with them or think they're wrong.

If you don't agree with them or you think they're wrong, how can you respect them?
How can you show honor or esteem for or hold in high regard, someone or group that is trying to indoctrinate your children and grandchildren into an immoral lifestyle?

It's perfectly fine to "respect" someone. Would you, for example, support your kids if they egged the house of or taunted a gay person who lived on your street or in your neighborhood?

Of course not - the kids were supposed to use pitchforks and torches! /sarcasm

Pray does nothing if you don't get up afterwards and do something about the problem.
Prayer did not get President Bush re-elected. Christians getting up off their duffs did.

Those children are NOT THEIRS!! They have NO RIGHT to indoctrinate MY CHILDREN!!!

They have no business monkeying with school curriculum, or taking children to Gay Pride events(As happenened recently, with middle school children being exposed to disgusting perversions.), or putting on Gay Pride plays, or using popular educational/entertainment figures to push their own agenda.

The "violence" against gays is VASTLY exaggerated, and kindergarteners seldom commit violence, anyway.

Oh, and I bet all your "gay" friends are turned on by adolescents. That is pedophilia as well.

'Love thy neighbor' is one thing.

The problem is HOW they want to 'love thy neighbor'

After the 2004 election, the more pressing matter is to see some "respect" for Republicans' political views:
Fat chance, in all honesty. The democrats have no respect for any views but thier own. They're a vile, nasty, stupid lot.

To be honest what you do with your life is your business, however, personally I think it's sad to cut off other people simply because they disagree with you or you don't like some aspect of their life. It's simply so narrowminded, I literally can't get my head around it. But again, it's your life to waste.

Garbanzo, you claim to be an atheist. I doubt that - an agnostic, perhaps. Rather, I submit that you subscribe to the latest trend, "Homo Indifferens". A large part of secularized societies lives with no reference to religious authority or values. For "homo indifferens," "Perhaps God does not exist, it doesn't matter, anyway we don't miss him." Well-being and the culture of secularization provoke in consciences an eclipse of need and desire for all that is not immediate. They reduce aspiration toward the transcendent to a simple subjective need for spirituality, and happiness to material well-being and the gratification of sexual impulses.

the voice and creator is a married guy with kids

The creator is not involved with this propaganda. This is more representative of how one group will select a character, well respected and liked by kids, and then turn him into something he was never intended to be. This takes the 'syndicated' SpongeBob out of the mainstream and uses him to convey an alternative lifestyle message to those "who trust him". Got it?

It's an old, time honored trick that has been used with various characters from Sesame Street, to promote Aids Awareness and condom use.

I will be gathering a list of companies who advertise on these shows and will post them later if anyone cares to join me in this endeavor.

If you do this, consider making a *ping list*. Add my name to that list. ;-D

I find it odd that your only comments to FR - and all today - are in 100% support of the "gay" agenda. Full, unconditional support.

I've found that people who make statements like "all the gays I know knew they were gay at a young age, none were "indoctrinated", and none are into young boys" are, sorry to say, here for the purpose of disruption and promoting perversity. FR is not the place for that. The honorable founder and owner of FR does not want the "gay" agenda pushed or supported here.

Your subjective opinions are worthless, not true, not based on any fact, and are defeated and shown to be false by numerous articles on FR. But will you do the research to find the truth? It's here if you want it.

The indoctrination of small children to accepting the homosexual lifestyle is meant to open the door to the possibility that a young person could see himself/herself as a homosexual.

The gay rights advocates try to spread the lie that this is about "consenting adults" when actually they want gay rights for small (asexual) children as well. The Sex Positive agenda says that people should act on their sexual desires (which is why they walk hand in hand with the Homosexual Agenda). What about small children who say that they want to "marry" mommy or daddy? Should they act on those desires as well? How is this "Bobby loves Timmy" or "Sally loves Jessica" any different?

Children need to be taught that sex and love are not the same thing and that sex is not the "ultimate" expression of love. How could you truly love your dog, your parents, your neighbors, or God if that were the case?

The primary purpose of sex is reproduction. That is not to say that all sex should be for procreational purposes but the hazards of pregnancy, disease, and remorse mean that some people who are too young to accept the responsibilities should not engage in it. Extramarital sexual relations (either unmarried sex, polyamory orgies, or adultery) bring with them a whole lot of problems. We can love the sinner but still hate the sin. We don't need to "accept" their outlaw lifestyle as a "normal" variant.

How do they get the permission to use the character? Spongebob's agents obviously don't care that his image is being dragged into the toilet.
