This whole sequence of photos is not from the Tsunami but actually from the Qian Tang Jiang River, in Hangzhou, China dated 2002.

I needed to see this. Just watching the news does not even begin to describe ... there aren't even words. My heart is truly with everyone effected by this. It really makes me appreciate my children and also my husband who is in Kuwait. Thank you for your post.

That baby Is alive. Got the name Tsunami, was born four days after the wave. Was a couple of week premature but mother and baby are ok!

It is hard to feel sorry for some of those clowns on the bridge(?) taking photos of a 40ft wall of H2O coming at them. What were they thinking. I've seen those pictures before and someone said they were taken in China, not tsunami pictures.

Wow. What pics here. Thanks, Happy!

Signing off for now, but I'll be back here tomorrow.

My wife wants to see this thread, too.

Poor people that got caught up in this. :^(

I just wanted to thank you for keeping this honest. There are enough pictures of the wrath of the tsunami without adding pictures that did not occur at that time. It would be so wonderful if people would go to www.snopes.com before posting. I will keep those countries in my prayers! God Bless!

If you believe in the existence of a God, one which is capable of creating everything, then your an inconsequential insect who exercises unimaginable hubris even imagining you can second guess His reasons for ANYTHING. An amoeba would have an easier time understanding YOU.
If you do not believe in such a creator, then it is pointless to blame him.

Sorry to disappoint some people, but this particular shot looks like people are lined up to watch... because they ARE! It's a photo from the September 9th, 2002 tidal bore on the Qiantang River in China...

"The Qiantang Tidal River Bore
The largest tidal river bore in the world, China, can be 4m high, 3km wide and travel at speeds in excess of 20 mph. At certain locations reflected waves can reach 10m and the roar can be heard over an hour before its arrival."

Already informed earlier on the thread. A news site in the far east used this photo early on associated with the tsunami and it was shown to be what you explained on this thread some time ago. Thanks for the additional reminder.

To all - I just wanted to let you know that the pictures of the people smiling are not from the Tsunami but pictures of the Qiantangjiang (Qiantang) River near Hangzhou, China on September 9, 2002. You can check that out at an Urban Legend Website. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_tsunami_photos.htmIt's ashame people make a joke out of such horrible tragedies.

How can one put something such as this in perspective? After haveing seen and been through such words I can't even come up with describing this tragedy that leaves us all so very bitter. How does one find the ability to go on with so much loss and grief in their hearts. My heart goes out to all of you and May God be with you all forever and give you peace and love in your fragile hearts.

form the photo seen here, it seems to me that the Prophesies in the Book of Luke in the Bible are coming to pass,"The churning of the seas before that Great day of the Lord"

This is not from the tsunami. It's a tidal bore in China.
