Congressman Mocks Parrot Arrests

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) issued a statement on Tuesday contrasting the government's zeal in preventing parrots from Mexico from illegally entering the country with their efforts to stop illegal immigration in general.

Under the headline "Apparently There Are No Jobs Available That American Parrots Won't Do," Tancredo said he was surprised to learn of the "incredible success that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers enjoyed in apprehending smugglers attempting to illegally smuggle 150 Lilac Crowned and Mexican Redhead Amazon Parrots into the United States."

The statement points out that ICE, however, has not had the same luck in preventing an estimated 3 million illegal alien human beings from swarming into the U.S. annually unchecked.

"It's nice to see that ICE has their priorities in order," quipped Tancredo, head of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. "Now that we appear able to successfully identify and apprehend parrots attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, perhaps doing the same with people is just around the corner."

In addressing illegal immigration questions at Wednesday's press conference, President Bush said that America wants border patrol agents "chasing crooks and thieves and drug runners and terrorists, not good-hearted people who are coming here to work."

"And therefore, it makes sense to allow the good-hearted people who are coming here to do jobs that Americans won't do a legal way to do so," Bush added in reference to his guest worker plan. "And providing that legal avenue, it takes the pressure off the border."

The president said that the border should be "modern" and that border patrol should be upgraded.

"Now, one of the important aspects of my vision is that this is not automatic citizenship," Bush explained. "The American people must understand that. That if somebody who is here working wants to be a citizen, they can get in line like those who have been here legally and have been working to become a citizen in a legal manner."

Tancredo, who supports some form of guest worker program but who has been a vocal critic of the administration's efforts to increase border security and stop illegal immigration, noted in his press release that an international environmental organization called WildAid congratulated the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and ICE for "foiling the diabolical plot of the sinister bird-smugglers in San Diego earlier this year, and 'deporting' the parrots to Mexican wildlife authorities."

"Better yet," added Tancredo, "Perhaps we should explore the possibility of moving the Fish and Wildlife Service from the Interior Department over into Homeland Security."

Actually, true market theory doesn't have Federally Mandated Minimum Wage - this is where the problem lies. You say Americans would do ALL the work if the pay was sufficient. Who says what is sufficient? The market or the Feds?

Infectious diseases carried by non-human animals are much more transmittable to other non-human animals than to humans. While people have (or can develop) immunities, can be vaccinated or treated, animals cannot, and the resulting epidemic(s) could devastate the food supply. There is much work to be done on many fronts

That's total BS and you know it. Prove it. If you have a more accurate number, please share it with us.

You are joking, right? If you've hired anyone as of late or noticed any of the "help wanted" signs you'd know that the are too many jobs unfilled for there to be 14 million "willing" Americans out of work and looking. The fact is that the 14 million "unemployed" people don't all want to work. Many are content continuing their complaints while on the gub'ment paycheck. If you want a job in America, you can have one.

"All I hear is, "I have to make X dollars or I'm not lifting a finger. I'll live off the Government (meaning people who work and pay taxes)."

So, illegals don't live off the Government? Is that what you're saying?

If illegals have a wife or live-in girlfriend in this country and a few anchor baby kids they most assuredly are living off the Government. All those anchor babies are being supported by AFDC, Food Stamps, Section 8 housing and all those other good Government benefits - not to mention an American education. Plus, they use the emergency rooms with impunity, knowing they cannot be turned away and will never pay a dime for the fine medical care they will receive.

I work in the medical field. I will assure you that every illegal alien woman giving birth in an American hospital is visited by the hospital social worker before she is discharged and informed of all the benefits her baby (and hence the family) are eligible to receive. She is given information on the WIC program and is also given the phone number and address of the local Welfare office.

IOW: Employing illegals is a big financial windfall for their employers, but it's not so good for the rest of us. Your taxes are supporting a very large portion of the illegals in this country. Why aren't you disparaging the illegals the same way you disparage American citizens?

I don't see AMERICANS lining up every morning bright and early to go do housework or yard work or even temporary labor.

Specious argument.

The only ones who benefit from illegal labor are the employers who exploit the illegals, send Americans into poverty, destitute our tax base, bankrupt our civil services and rape our national security.

Didn't you get the memo ???

After receiving yet another amnesty, all tax evading, illegal employers, *pinkie swore* they would from now on only employ legal workers !!!

All gov't had to do was *ask them* !!!!

/sarcasm

"just to provide Americans jobs who are not willing to work for $7/hour."

The illegals won't work for $7/lhr either and don't.

Even the lowest of them, the street pickups, won't work for less than $8/hr CASH, lunch, and free transportation.

If the people hiring them made and paid the deductions like they do to americans the illegls wouldnt work for $8/hr, they would demand $12.

Most of the ones with steady employment make $20/hr, still cssh, and more.

Even the ones hired by landscapers which I consider grunt no talant labor make $20/hr and more.

"Since when do those jobs all equal the same pay? "

The better question would be 'since when do those jobs all equal the same livable wage?'

Meat packers used to make such a wage, now they do not due to illegal labor. So that is why meat packing jobs are usually not taken by American citizens; do you expect them to work hard at jobs that do NOT pay their bills?

YEah, they also swore that this would stop more illegal immigration.

Funny thing though - the last time they did this with giveing amnesty to ab out 2 million illegals, they said that they would stay tough with the laws and keep the illegals out. The critics countered that all it would do is encourage more illegal immigration.

Now these same pro-illegal stooges want to do it all again but just avoid the word amnesty.

Well we got 10 million more of them this time; what will happen the next time? a hundred million? fifty million?

They are sabotaging our national security to feed their fat bellies and I for one am sick of their lies. They are destroying America.

All i ever hear is, "I have to make X dollars or I'm not lifting a finger. I'll live off the Government (meaning people who work and pay taxes).

So let's tell gov't we ready for some real welfare reform.

Obviously gov't hasn't done much good in fixing welfare.......why believe they would do any better *fixing* illegal immigration.

btw.....have you considered that millions of new legal 'low wage' earners are also going to be eligable to file for a nice fat EIC check every January ??

Average EIC check runs about $1700 & up to $4K plus. (MORE welfare)

That was a good post about parrots.

I love parrots. I had a wonderful, smart beautiful African Grey that died a few months ago.

I really miss that bird and as soon as I can afford it, there will be another one in this house.
