No, it's not that simple.
Cal lost to USC, the number 1 team in the country. Traditionally, the Pac 10 and Big 10 play in the Rose, before the BCS got to it and loused it up.
Stated simply, Texas cried on the kneecaps of the sports writers, and the press being mostly liberal, refused to acknowledge that Cal was a stronger team this year.
By your logic, Texas shouldn't have lost to whoever they lost to this year either.

I have to agree with AppyPappy on this one. The Hokies have played strong defense throughout the year, stifling Miami in the Orange Bowl last weekend. Of course, I'm not unbiased, but I don't see Auburn running up the score on them at all.

And it would be a part of a long tradition of Big 10/Pac 10 matchups in the Rose.

But just what would happen if Auburn did just that? Wiped Va Tech off the map without a doubt?

Agree with your general philosophy So, let's go back and just let the media and coaches pick the #1 team. It's not any worse than it is now and at least it is honest if not accurate.

Tech will school Cal.I'll take some of that action. How much you willing to put up?

I don't think it would matter in the end, becuase they would have beaten the #8 team in the country. The Orange Bowl winner will have beaten either the #1 or #2 team in the country. Unfortunately I think Auburn gets the short end of the stick here. Playoff anyone?

Do you remember Al Kincaid? My little daughter and I had dinner with him about six months ago and didn't have a clue as to his football history. Nice fellow.

There are letters to the editor in today's San Francisco Chronicle suggesting that the BCS committee is sticking it to Cal because it is located in a blue state.
You can't make this stuff up.

?I still don't understand why collage athletics are televised, much less the bowl system.

Teams have been getting screwed since long before the BCS was ever conceived. Remember 1994?

The whole bowl system is flawed. When Pitt makes a BCS poll and Nebraska beats them at home...puhleez. Should be: USC v OU; Aub v Tx; CA v Utah. Those would be awesome games. But no, Pitt makes BCS...Auburn, Texas, California, and Utah...all getting screwed.

Exactly, but don't blame Texas. If call had squeaked in ahead of UT Texas fans would be scremimg and Cal Fans would be saying the deserved it.
Pit, Va Tech and even UM are questionable entrees. The current system puts no value on strength of Conference. The Big 12 (South)is tough, the SEC is Brutal and the PAC 10 is rough.
The big ten is not what it once was but it will be back. Tell the ACC and Big East to put some real teams on the field and end up in the top Eight in the Rankings to go to a BcS Game.

My only point was that in college football there is one way to control your own destiny: Win every game. All the fuss over texas v. cal overshadows the only team in the nation with a legitimate right to complain: Auburn. Only someone biased towards one of the two at-large contenders would even try to argue that either deserves to be in the Rose Bowl at the expense of the other.
To: andrew2527
Actually, Utah and Boise State have legitimate rights as well. They had undefeated seasons too.
Boise State should certainly be offered a BCS game over Pitt by your math.
I think that an unbiased person can look at the two losses - Cal's loss to USC in the final play, and Oklahoma's humiliation of Texas 42-0 and come to the rational conclusion that Cal's only loss was so close to being a victory, and against the number 1 team in the country, that Cal should be ranked over Texas. Both polls certainly reflected that.
No, to really screw things up, it takes a computer. Nothing like encoding bias into software to make something really stink.

Oklahoma beat Texas 12-0. Not really a humiliation.

Yeah....this is it.
Thanks.

That sounds like a typically idiotic statement from some biased college football fan from east of the Divide. So what if Cal didn't win the Pac-10? Texas didn't win the Big-12 either! Put your unbiased goggles on and look at both teams...Aaron Rodgers is a 1st round pick and the Cal offense is a 2-dimensional wonder. Texas couldn't pass gas, much less a football. Who's whining? It certainly isn't Cal...Mack Brown has been whining for the past 2 weeks and evidently it paid off. Maybe after this season, the Pac-10 will tell the BCS and everybody else to go screw themselves. The Pac-10 should tell everybody that if their league champion goes to the BCS championship, then their league runnerup will go to the Rose Bowl. Cal got screwed worse than USC did last year. Yet, in both years, both Pac-10 schools reacted with complete class. Unlike, Texas and Auburn...neither team could hold USC's, Oklahoma's or Cal's jock strap. Yeah, right.

Just wondering how much you lost Warrior?
