LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
Thanks, pardner...It is I who am humbled by courageous, patriotic men like you son. May God bless him.
You both have a way with words that I'm obviously without.
I'm still salving my wounds from suggesting (earlier in the thread) pretty much what you two said....
...several came online to suggest my faith is wanting.....or I'm in the homophobe category.
Neither is true.....I love the sinner, hate the sin.
I am distrustful of her motives... as F19 put it.....and you too Search.
I called attention to her politics and the politics of our times, ie, Defense of Marriage Bill....
Being called a 'church lady', even derogatorily, LOL, is pretty close to the truth.---
...but suggesting by innuendo that someone is a homophobe or their faith is lacking .....is out of bounds.
Anyway, thanks guys.....for saying it better than I could.
FR should be a place where one can disagree without it getting personal.
Too bad that isn't always the way it is.
This was a surprise Living Free in NH, no one told me nor did I suspect it!
