The ‘Honorable’ member from Mississauga

Good piece overall, but this is a factual error.

Only Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State, parliamentary secretaries, the Speaker of the House, the Dean of the House (the MP with the longest continuous service who's not a Minister) and the Leader of the Opposition are given the title of Honorable. The Prime Minister is given the title of Right Honorable.

In one of the most shameful displays of offensive behavior ever shown toward a guest and visiting foreign head of state in Canadian parliamentary history, then-President Ronald Reagan was heckled during his speech to Canada’s premier legislative body by a member of the socialist New Democratic Party, Svend Robinson, Canada’s first openly gay MP. President Reagan, however, turned the tables on Robinson by stopping his speech and asking whether there was an echo in the House, causing those present to burst out laughing at the disrupter. The oh-so-morally self-righteous Robinson was later convicted of stealing a $61,000 ring from a jeweler, while President Reagan went on to become one of the most honored presidents in American history.

The guy is actually a draft-dodger from Minnesota. So it figures.

Carolyn Parrish won't give up hunting the Great White Whale that's the object of her passion. She is lashed to hating the United States. You know, when your life is consumed by hate you have no energy left for anything else. And Canadians perhaps ought to be thankful Parrish can't inflict more misery upon them - she saved it all for bigger game.

What a moron she is. And she is a former teacher....can you imagine this moron teaching your kids??? Her former boss, French dictator Prime Minister Jean Chretien refused to punish her in any way...Martin finally did.

Carolyn Parrish: Canadian Leftist Mouthpiece - Stephen Brown

She is Canada’s leftist queen of anti-American mean.

Canadian Liberal Member of Parliament Carolyn Parrish, a backbench member of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party, outdid her usual crude and boorish self last week when she appeared on a comedy show televised by the leftist, taxpayer-funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and stomped on a George Bush doll with her boot.

The ‘Honorable’ member from Mississauga, a city just outside Toronto, continued with her vile behavior by performing voodoo on the doll’s head, where, she said, “it would do the least damage.”

The Liberal MP’s latest anti-American diatribe comes just days before President Bush’s first visit to Canada on November 30, when he will make a speech to the Canadian House of Commons. The president’s supporters in America’s northern neighbor now fear that Parrish and other lib-leftist MPs of her ilk are setting up to disrupt the American leader’s visit to the House.

And their concerns are not unjustified.

Parrish was first elected to Parliament in 1993 and has been re-elected twice since then. A former high school teacher and board of education chairwoman before entering politics, she shot into the news last year after she was heard saying outside the House of Commons, “Damn Americans...I hate those bastards.” She later apologized for those remarks, saying she meant them only for Bush and those in his administration.

Neverthelesss, Parrish’s behavior has remained shameless. Last August, she called Americans a “coalition of idiots” for supporting plans for a missile defense system, a play on words of President Bush’s ‘coalition of the willing’. And just last week the married mother of two said she was “dumbfounded” that Bush had won the election, calling him a “war-like man” and saying it shows that the Americans who supported him are out of step with the rest of the international community.

But while many just write Parrish off as a headline-grabbing, frustrated leftist politician who is angry that she was never selected for a Cabinet position, they fail to notice that there is actually a method to her anti-American madness. The Ontario MP’s political riding contains a substantial Muslim population that helped get her elected three times and win a bitterly contested nomination meeting against a fellow Liberal before the last election earlier this year. Besides reflecting her political beliefs, her infantile displays of anti-Americanism are also intended to please this constituency, whose votes help ensure that she remains in Parliament. Two years ago, Parrish even headed a nine-member parliamentary delegation of leftist and liberal MPs on a trip to Palestine and Israel that was funded by a Palestinian cultural center, the Palestine House, in Mississauga. Unsurprisingly, the group’s final report contains a litany of complaints against the Israeli occupation.

But the nastiness and bullying tone of Parrish’s anti-American outbursts comes as no surprise to those who have followed her career. Among her other golden moments, the former teacher once threatened to beat up a school board chairwoman in a dispute over a school program. This paragon of lib-left civility also thought a fellow female MP was “evil” for introducing a bill that would give serial killers consecutive sentences, saying the only reason one didn’t “just grab her by the throat and throttle her” was because the other MP sincerely believed in her cause.

Last week, Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin expelled Parrish from caucus, and she will now have to sit in Parliament as an independent. Contrary to popular belief, the Mississauga member was not kicked out for ignoring Martin’s warnings to his Liberal MPs, many of whom also hold Parrish’s anti-American views, about saying anything insulting about President Bush or the United States. After years of antagonism between former Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien, Bill Clinton’s good friend, and George Bush, Martin is trying to patch things up, mainly because of outstanding economic issues between the two countries. In reality, Parrish was expelled from caucus for criticizing Martin and the Liberal Party.

But her new parliamentary status probably suits Parrish very well. Her independent vote will go a longer way in a minority-government parliament that is almost evenly split. More importantly, completely unrestrained now by party discipline, she is perfectly set up to grab world headlines rather than just local ones when President Bush comes to visit. And with an ego the size of the country she hates, one can bet this is one opportunity the America-bashing Parrish won’t pass up.
