The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now
Full Story
"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

Not that I'm superstitious, but 2 ftps end with "007."
Could just be a coincidence.
Yep.

Homeland badges chased down

"15 department IDs have been recovered; Wayne takes action to find missing five."

By Norman Sinclair / The Detroit News

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Wayne County officials have been forced to take legal action to retrieve at least five homeland security badges and identifications they admit are still in the hands of non-county employees who should not have such sensitive credentials.

Eric V. Smith, a top aide to County Executive Robert Ficano, said 15 badges have been recovered since The Detroit News published a story last month about abuses of those badges by civilians not connected to county government.

At least one civilian member of a homeland security advisory board flashed such a badge and showed off the official identification card to get out of a traffic ticket. The man also had shown the badge to Wayne County jailers in an attempt to arrange a private visit with a friend who was awaiting trial on federal drug conspiracy charges."

I don't open too many of the links after the nasty viruses I picked up a few months ago.

Being techno-challenged, I don't know all the tricks to keeping my computer safe.

Bainbridge terminal closed

SEATTLE -- The state ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island was closed late Tuesday afternoon because of "suspicious activity" connected to the ferry Wenatchee, a state ferries spokeswoman said.

The Wenatchee was tied up at Bainbridge and the terminal was closed, spokeswoman Susan Harris said.

Traffic on the Bainbridge side was being diverted to Kingston. The second ferry on the Bainbridge-Seattle run, the Tacoma, was being diverted to Kingston.

Further details about the suspicious activity were not immediately available

Suspicious Backpack Shuts Down Bainbridge Terminal

POSTED: 4:42 pm PST December 14, 2004
UPDATED: 5:24 pm PST December 14, 2004

SEATTLE -- The busy state ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island was closed during evening rush hour Tuesday after a man was spotted dumping a backpack into a garbage can on the ferry Puyallup, a state trooper said.

The State Patrol was treating the matter as a "bomb situation" and had a bomb unit at the scene, Trooper Scott Harter said.

The Puyallup was evacuated and a 300-foot perimeter established around the vessel.

The incident occurred after the ferry docked, Harter said.

"A young male -- that's the only description we have at this time" -- was observed dumping the backpack into a garbage can, he said.

"Then he fled from the boat," Harter said.

Concerns arose when a ferry rider acted "erratically," ferry spokeswoman Susan Harris said.

Traffic on the Bainbridge side was being diverted to Kingston, she said. The second ferry on the Bainbridge-Seattle run, the Wenatchee, was also diverted to Kingston.

Buses were taking people from the ferry terminal at Kingston to Bainbridge Island, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Yikes. IMO it's just a matter of time till something happens on the Puget Sound ferry system. It's such a large system, so many ferries with so many passangers, and very inadequate security.

Glad you understand!

My mouse has been acting funny for the last week or so.

I have to click 2 or 3 times for the click to 'take'. Quite annoying.

Can a mouse get a virus?

I don't think a mouse can get a virus. Is it a PC mouse (as opposed to a laptop mouse)? If so, you can take it apart and clean the ball, or just buy a new one if it's older.

Not to sound obscene, but the mouse ball can wear out.
