In my experience, that statement is the last resort of people who can't respond to someone else's argument. It's a doubly self-defeating comment, because it sounds pretentious and self-absorbed, implying that you see yourself on some lofty perch of wisdom, looking down with "pity" on lesser, benighted folks --- and all because I complain (along with millions of others) that the word "Christmas" is being censored, which it obviously is!
