MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) Former presidential candidate Howard Dean is considering a bid to become chairman of the national Democratic Party.
Steve Grossman, himself a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Dean had told him he was thinking about it.
Dean was traveling today in New York and unavailable for comment. His spokeswoman, Laura Gross, said ``it was far too early to be speculating on that.''
The 240 members of the Democratic National Convention will elect a new chair early next year. Several names are already being mentioned, including former Clinton aide Harold Ickes; Donna Brazile, who ran Al Gore's presidential campaign, and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack.
Dean has been outspoken since the beginning of his presidential bid in saying that the Democratic Party must establish a separate and unique identity from Republicans.
The next chairman will replace Terry McAuliffe, whose term is ending.
Like was said above. Please let it be so. Allen
We can only hope.
I can hear it now..."We're going to take back Virginia and South Carolina, and Michigan, and Idaho, and Oklahoma...."
Remember 56 million americans voted AGAINST W this time... and last time it was close to.... Just remember its not the man that they run, but who they run AGAINST!
I can't think of a better person for the job. I'm sure he will lead the Dems to monumental gains in Congress and to the White House, just like Terry McAuliffe did.
Why, just teaching all Dems to scream "Yeaaaaaaargh" as a battle cry should garner millions of votes.
Well, Howard does seem to voice the thinking of the democrats. I would not be surprised.
He is a radical peace nik.......a crazy, lunatic screamer.
He is representative. I can see it.
Dean, head of DNC? I say, more power to the Dims. Go for it!!
If I ever doubted God's sense of humor, I don't now....so many years of fun ahead...come on Howie..we love you man!!
Good news just keeps coming.
That's why Harold Ickes name is being mentioned as a possibility for the DNC chair too. Ickes is a Clinton lackey for sure, and Hillary and Bill want their own people running the party in preparation for 2008. Howard Dean chairing the DNC would be pure entertainment for us, but it would also start a civil war in the Democratic Party between the Clintonistas and the non-Clintonistas. In that fight my money is on the Clintonistas. It will be interesting to watch this all play out.
Those dumocrats will never learn.
GIGO
Go Howie Baby..were rootin' for ya.

Or maybe it's an attempt to wrest control of the party from the Clintonistas.
In any case, it's good to see the D's are NOT interested in moderating their tone.
Steve Grossman, himself a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Dean had told him he was thinking about it.
Sweet Father in Heaven! Christmas isn't until next month, yet this feels just like it!
GO DEAN GO!
YEAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
