The 'Rats blather on about their support for gay rights and their sensitivity to their concerns - but they're the first people to point at an opponent and say "Look at him...he's GAYYYY!!!"

When Edwards first brought the subject up - I thought it was a major gaffe that he would be pounded by the DNC for. But what is now very clear - is that it's an intentional strategy. They've now mentioned it three times on national TV.

They are NUTS! If they think that the Christian right is going to be turned off to Bush in sufficient numbers to overcome the massive disgust across all demographics for this blatantly transparent smear attempt, they need courses in remedial interpersonal skills and basic math.

You're right. It seems clear now that after Edwards referenced Mary Cheney in the first debate the Bush camp decided to let it lie perhaps thinking that the Kerry campaign would see it as a mistake. An ABC poll shows that people believe by a 2 to 1 margin that Mr. Kerry's remark was in bad taste. More interesting is how the major media, sympathetic to Kerry, has tried to spin the issue. Their talking points are that everyone knew Mary Cheney was a lesbian. It was common knowledge. To back up this filmsy logic they point out that it came out in an August Vice Presidential event in Iowa. Maybe it was common knowledge in America's political newsrooms but it is safe to say that the majority of Americans were unaware that the Vice President had a gay daughter. Mr. Kerry's 1971 testimony in front of the Senate was widely reported but if it were common knowledge now I doubt the Swiftboat Vets would have crafted an ad around it. So the fact that Mary Cheney's sexual orientation was not commonly know is precisely why neither Edwards nor Kerry could pass on an opportunity to point it up to the American public on national television. So the assertion that Ms. Cheney's sexual preference was common knowledge is completely bogus and the Kerry camp intentional brought it up to harm the President and that's gay-baiting.
