FCC COMMISSIONER STATEMENT ON SINCLAIR AIRING OF ANTI-KERRY SHOW
Tue Oct 12 2004 13:39:02 ET
FCC COMMISSIONER COPPS CRITICIZES SINCLAIR CORPORATE DECISION TO PREEMPT LOCAL STATIONS FOR POLITICAL BROADCAST
Commissioner Michael J. Copps reacted to reports that Sinclair Broadcast Group will preempt more than 60 local stations across the country to air an overtly political program in the days prior to the Presidential election.
Copps stated: "This is an abuse of the public trust. And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative. Some will undoubtedly question if this is appropriate stewardship of the public airwaves. This is the same corporation that refused to air Nightline's reading of our war dead in Iraq. It is the same corporation that short-shrifts local communities and local jobs by distance-casting news and weather from hundreds of miles away.It is a sad fact that the explicit public interest protections we once had to ensure balance continue to be weakened by the Federal Communications Commission while it allows media conglomerates to get even bigger. Sinclair, and the FCC, are taking us down a dangerous road."
END
This "complaint" to the FCC will all come to nothing.
Better read the article again. There's more than a headline. There's a quotation of a very biased partisan and unseemly public statement from an FCC commissioner. That's news.
I know. I posted that when Drudge just had a headline up and nothing else.
Ok. Sorry.
You guys can go to Google and look for the Sinclair Group and it will list all of their stations and the question is asked if they should or should not air the documentary. The lefties have been voting. Everyone does need to vote. Thanks!
One of the FCC Commissioners: Michael J. Copps , most recently served as President Clinton's Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development 1998-2001 and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Basic Industries under Clinton, 1993-1998. Served for 15 years with Democrat Sen. Fritz Hollings (SC) in several positions including Chief of Staff.
Good job on the resume. I noticed he was a Klintonista as well. I wonder what authority a Commissioner has.
Michael J. Copps has been in bed with the Clintons for at least a decade. Just another reason to pass a bill that any holdover from GS 7 and up must submit a letter to the president with their resignation on the letter if the President wants it, to each president as that president is sworn in. Then, when they do bs like this, their letter resignation becomes effective ASAP.

Thanks. Deport has got the guy's FCC bio on post #175.
My email:
"So, you don't want to broadcast "Stolen Honor," but you think it's ok to allow network drama after drama, and sitcom after sitcom push the Democrat's agenda?
What a hypocrite you are!
there are over 500,000 possibles on Sinclair Group...could you trim it a bit and tell where the site is to sign the petition to air the documentary. I would sure appreciate that..otherwise, I may die at my keyboard looking for the right one. Thanks.
so... Michael J. Copps, you speak for the ENTIRE FCC?
Isn't that like the FEC where it is a 50/50 mix of dems and
republicans? why should we care what ONE member says?
Don't former POW's have a right to speak?
Why shouldn't POW's be allowed to speak on an issue they feel is very important to them, AS LONG AS KERRY IS ALLOWED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REBUTTAL?
I wrote to every commissioner.
Interesting Clip I found on the net....http://www.columbustownhall.com/videos/burnflag.wmv
The Sundance Channel and the IFC have been running antiBush progremming for weeks.
Google Sinclair Broadcasting
It is not a petition, just a quick web poll.
The demonRATS have the MSM to do their bidding, and the timidity of Republicans keeps them from playing hardball with the FCC.
"Lets talk Coppes AFTER you pull CBS licence. Geeesh! where are the forged documents?"
As much as I'd like to see this aired, it does appear to be one long swiftboat ad.
How would we feel if F9/11 were being placed into 25% of Americas homes FREE OF CHARGE shortly before election?
Can you say FREEP? Can you say BOYCOTT?
I believe CBS fu#$ked up...it was a mistake. They took sweet time admitting it, but they were hoodwinked. They have liberal bias, but they're not blatent in thier actions like this would be. This is blatent partisanship...it's not news. Again, it's no different than if F9/11 were preempting regular programming next week on all NBC channels as per network directive. I'd be working the phones and emails like crazy if that were to happen. And if they were trying to call Moores film "news"?? Ho boy, watch out.
