U.S. Aircraft Destroys Fallujah Restaurant

FALLUJAH, Iraq - A U.S. warplane early Tuesday destroyed a popular restaurant which the U.S. command said was a meeting place for members of Iraq's most feared terrorist organization.

The 12:01 a.m. blast demolished the Haj Hussein restaurant as well as nearby shops, residents said. There was no report of casualties and the restaurant was closed at the time, but two night guards were missing, residents said.

Ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene.

The U.S. military command in Baghdad made no mention of the restaurant but said the target was "a center" for the Tawhid and Jihad terror network, led by Jordanian-born extremist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"Following the engagement, secondary explosions were reported, indicating the strong likelihood of weapons caches and explosive devices," the statement said. "Terrorists frequently planned operations from this location. Plans included targeting Iraqi governmental leadership, Iraqi security forces, coalition forces and innocent Iraqi citizens."

Al-Zarqawi's network has claimed responsibility for numerous car bombings, kidnappings and beheadings of foreign hostages, including American businessman Nicholas Berg, South Korean translator Kim Sung-il, British civil engineer Kenneth Bigley and U.S. engineers Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley.

I'd love to know the delivery process. An A-10? I love that aircraft.

Probably not. More likely an F-16C/D, an F-15E, or if the Navy is horning in, an F/A-18 or F-14 BombCat. Those have better avionics fits and are better for dropping the JDAM or other precision weapons that are dropped "blind" as far as the aircraft is concerned (IE, they are dropped on coordinates, rather than aimed at visible target.

Following the engagement, secondary explosions were reported, indicating the strong likelihood of weapons caches and explosive devices . . .

Oh, c'mon! . . . That was probably just their supply of creme brulee torches going up.

Yea, I saw that. Nice to see that we haven’t rolled over.

I can’t develop an opinion in this in such a media vacuum, have to wait for reported developments.

At least you are smart enough to understand that.

Why in the world would they hit the place when it's closed? Unless the terrorists typically met there after hours.

I keep wondering why we're using aircraft now that we control the ground(?) Should all this just be a function of artillary? What am I missing here?

Well, first of all, we do not control the ground at Fallujah.

Secondly, a JDAM is much heavier and much more accurate than artillery.

Holy shiite!. Thanks for the pic. God Bless our troops. I didn't know an F-16 flying so fast could deploy ordnance on such a precision target. When I saw the ANG in Richmond, VA, those bastards were so loud and so fast, I'd have to wonder how they could target the precision ordnance. I hope Rummy and W keeps funding our military. As far a s I am concerned, I'd unplug DC w/ the exception of the Pentagon. The Senate bastards can go home and read the Constitution; and get a reality check. I'd put them back on the payroll at $1.00 per year.... All of the departments would be eliminated; with the proceeds going to The United States Military and border guards. Then again, I'm just a simpleton who's family has been in the United States of America since 1860. Before Federal taxes, entitlements, and the rest of the Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Billy Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the rest of the destroy-America mentality. /rant - Then again, a 308 wake up call might help The Traitor.
