New Poll: Kucinich Losing Significant Voter Support, Herman Gaining Ground

Lakewood, Ohio – September 30, 2004 – Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s voter support is eroding according to a poll recently conducted by Wirthlin Worldwide of Reston, Virginia. His Republican challenger, Edward F. Herman, significantly boosted his name identification and voter support over the past two months.

Among voters who have heard of both Ed Herman and Dennis Kucinich the ballot is 44% Ed Herman, 48% Dennis Kucinich, 4% Barbara Ferris (Independent) and 4% undecided.

“This result shows that as voters become more aware of Ed Herman as a credible challenger, he has the ability to substantially increase his ballot standing and make this a competitive race, even with a third party candidate,” said William Dalbec, Senior Research Executive and Political Consultancy Leader, of Wirthlin Worldwide, a leading opinion research firm.

Herman tripled his name recognition among Independents and Democrats and nearly doubled it among Republicans. Ed was known by only 15% of likely voters in July and now 36% are familiar with his name. “Rep. Kucinich has experienced weakening of support in the two months since we last completed a survey,” said Dalbec. “Over the course of our work in the district, his re-elect has declined from 61% to 54%.”

Dennis Kucinich's poor voting record has distanced him from voters Another finding showed Rep. Kucinich’s “unfavorables” increased from 31% to 39%. “We feel confident as the voters of the tenth district learn more about Rep. Kucinich’s dismal voting record and inability to serve his constituents that his unfavorables will continue to increase,” said Ryan Demro,

Ed Herman for Congress campaign manager.

Surprisingly, some of the regions where Rep. Kucinich’s voter support falls below 50% include Parma, Parma Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Middleburg Heights, Brooklyn, Brookpark, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Newburgh Heights and Valley View. These areas, politically categorized as “Reagan Democrat,” have strongly supported Rep. Kucinich in the past.

The survey of likely 2004 voters in the 10th congressional district was conducted during the evening hours on September 26-27, 2004. The sample of voters has a margin of error of +/- 5.7%. The poll was paid for by the Ed Herman for Congress Campaign.

“I’m proud of our campaign’s positive developments,” said Herman. “We are working hard to deliver the 10th district a full-time congressman who can help solve the challenges of Northeast Ohio.”

Lots of labor money, that is why he's been the congresscritter since 1996. Also it is a Democrat district. But alot of the Democrats in the district are pro-life and Dennis said he was, up until he ran for president.

If Herman gets elected we'll have to stop making jokes about John Edwards being out after curfew. Does his mother let him cross the street?

Ah, it's worth it to send Dennis Kook'n'Bitch back to his home planet. Go Herman!

Wow. I hadn't seen those in a while. The first time I saw them posted here, I thought it was an elaborate joke by some Freeper. Then I went to the web site and sonofagun, it was real.

Does his mother let him cross the street?

Apparently so, because he was interrogating AlQueda suspects in Afghanistan in 2001/2002. He a veteran who speaks fluent Arabic. Not bad for a Cleveland area local boy.

Plus at 31 he'd be the second youngest member of the Ohio Congressional delegation Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) is 29.

Thanks for posting this! First I'd heard Kucinich was in trouble. I just assumed it was a lock-for him. That's what I get for assuming...He is just another tired, 60s thinking, liberal burn-out. I hope to be able to wish him luck in his new job, AFTER November 2!

I know a few moms in Ohio. When people complain about Dennis the menace they always parrot that this idiot has created jobs. Kool-Aid anyone?

We are working hard. This district went for Gore in 2000, 55/45. So I knew we COULD do it, but it's still going to work and money.

I noticed that this weekend myself. This thing will come down to the wire. Whatever we can do for Ed will be worth it.
