Witnesses nearby saw the two men speaking and, after hearing a single gunshot, saw Davis lying on the parking lot asphalt, said Sgt. Steve Staletovich of the Indianapolis Police Department. The witnesses told police the suspect picked up a weapon and fled. Police later identified a gun found with Al-Khattab as Davis' weapon. Officials said it was not clear whether Davis was shot with his own gun, or how Al-Khattab obtained the weapon.
