I teach in an inner city high school. Folks have no idea the depth of the anger and the simmering, lasting hatred that exists in the black community. It is literally held in check by the power of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately the Body of Christ is a powerful force in the lives of most adult black folks. Perhaps my perception is skewed by the fact that the school in which I teach is mostly Haitian and that group tends to be even more religious.
Returning to your point. I think you're spot on, for the scenario which you've posed. A few well placed agitators and the cooperation (unwitting) of a nervous police force....The only thing is that the agitators can not be Middle Eastern or islamic. That would be so obvious that it would fizzle.
OTOH, I also think that your scenario is too ummmmm sophisticated for the enemy we face. It's too tame given the profile of the terrorist as they have presented themselves. Their history (not just recent, but back to the Crusades) is straight up brutal violence. 911 was anything but subtle. It was not designed to be a long term event, either.
Even what is happening in Iraq, although it is a destabilizing effort, is not using the general populace for anything but shielding and maybe a cheering section. Those are still fighters waging an insurgents war. Fighters who came across the Iraq border it shares with other nations. Wait a second, JM? Might there be a parallel here?
Thousands of fighters burrowed into our countryside, concentrated in the desert southwest but conceivably waiting for another main force attack similar to 911? Then they start insurgent operations right here, thus linking into SCR1's scenario? Judicial meanz? What do you think?
Remember that this would yet be only another facet of what we are facing. Combined with Iraq and Afghanistan depoyments I can understand the dire warnings. Picture massive violent riots in major cities at one time. What if we decide to take on Iran and North Korea soon?
Could an 'insurgency' be created in America that would destabilize this country? Certainly we are polarized enough for something bad to happen. I think there are several groups in this country that are waiting for an excuse to go postal.
Hey, I couldn't resist posting that info - all in one day a mushroom cloud was not a blast, a cure to the common cold and the dog disease (mass itching in different areas of Kansas). Now you literally show me french fried frogs and I think its over the edge for me. Too much weird stuff going on!
Unfortunately I believe this will happen sooner than later. It's an unsettling feeling to know that they all have a common goal. Take down the USA.
Your 57 varieties of radical causes - parts 1 and 2 are interesting and bear reporting by the same media that won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
We are certainly serious about what we do here at TM, but have a need for the personal touch too. Bandit and Amber are part of this TM family by virtue of your posts and, of course, we expect to be updated on them occasionally. Your wife, by the way, is also part of this family with her understanding, consideration and sharing of your time spent with us.
Not in the immediate future. I expect that the preemptive strikes will focus upon Chechnya and Georgia Republic. These areas have been a thorn in Russia's side for a long time. That has and will keep them and their resources occupied for a while.

Some of Russia's anger could rightfully be directed at the murky policies of the US and EU during the Clinton years. During those years we sheltered moslems in the former Yugoslavia, ignoring the development of islamic terrorism, thinking that the prevention of a repressive regime would pacify the region and that these proto-terrorists should be protected. Now I am seeing them for what they are - terrorists. Notice how islamic terror is protected in Kosovo and other parts of the world. This is also reflected in France & Germany's appeasement / resistance policies. And in some ways our State Dept.'s attitude in overwhelming favor of the Palestanians over the Israelis.
This incident reflects that 'luck' factor. One border agent with enough savvy to realize that something was wrong and was willing to do something about it. Far cry from the many other government agents that would not have bothered investigating further. Unfortunately, there is still too much dead wood in the security system and no one with the moxy to trim it out yet.
FUNNY TERRORISM PARODY ALERT
I do not have time right now to catch up on the thread or respond, but I wanted to post this funny song parody link here since I just received it via e-mail and I really enjoyed it! Others may have heard this previously. Here it is:

Now they tell me after the hours I put into trying to find the non-existant seismic data.
The 'what if' factor is very high. Israel has been very patient with us and W has been fair to them (when he's kept the State Dept out of it). Consider the Israeli options compared to Iraq.
With Iraq, there was only one target of concern. Iran has quite an extensive and widespread nuke development infrastructure that can't be taken out by one strike.
Iraq was closer, though stretching Israeli tactics to reach it (in flight refueling), and didn't expect it. Iran is logistically more difficult for Israel to reach without using it's ballastic missiles AND they are expecting it.
Finally, potential US support/concurrence. A pre-election strike could cut both ways. However, it would probably hurt us more than help. I don't think we have enough ground troops to deal with any after effects. Iran has 12 divisions ready to cross into Iraq and our forces are dispersed in counter-insurgency ops. If Iran uses a strike as an excuse to go back into S. Iraq as they did during the Iran/Iraq war, things would get really messy and we'd have a good portion of our supply line cut off, not to mention that the south is where the Brits and other allies are working.

hopelessly lost on many fronts! ;)
I'm almost done catching up on reading and compiling your summaries, I should have the new ones up in an hour or so.
I hope you made it through the storms ok, Ivan managed to produce around 110 tornadoes, this is on the heals of the 104 produced by Frances. Looks like it's going to be a record month in that department.
Thanks. :) I usually find a fair amount of time to do what I want to during school, the constant barrage of hurricanes managed to eat up all my free time tho... I can't seem to get enough info on those storms, they are truly amazing. Ivan managed to become the 5th strongest ever recorded in the Atlantic while he travelled through the Caribbean.
THANKS JP for this summary.
