The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

Acadia is probably the most beautiful place I've ever visited.

When we visited- we noticed that only people of Northern descent were able to tolerate the water temps- the Norwegians, Russians, etc. were swimming....while the rest of us were huddled on the beach under blankets!

I'm not sure- but I sure remember all of our discussion here on TM about the "Twin Cities" mentioned on the jihadi boards.

"They are combining forces to attack Israel at some point along the line."

I agree- and wonder what other countries are in their little club.

Can you believe it is Ranm-a-dong-ding-dong-time again. This year is flying by...

The defense establishment fears the Solomon's Stables area on Jerusalem's Temple Mount will collapse under the weight of the hundreds of thousands of Muslim worshippers who are expected to arrive for Ramadan observances which start in another three weeks, Israel Radio reported Sunday morning.

Terrorists Cross From Mexico

Excerpt:

I went to the border between San Diego California and Tijuana Mexico and actually went into the area between the two walls that separate Mexico from California (Can you imagine a wall separating two nations?)

Anyway I spent time with members of the United States Border Patrol and actually witnessed one "jumper" going over the two walls and into the U.S.

He was just too fast to be stopped.

The real reason for me writing is to tell you that the Border Patrol told me that they had stopped three Egyptians and three Palestinians getting across on that very day (September 11th 2004).

With more than 1200 miles (about 2000 kilometers) of border between Mexico and the U.S. (most of it not protected by a wall) how many Islamic terrorists actually did get across on September 11th?

One might guess that if they caught six, as many as 80 or 100 could have been successful in "immigrating" to America .

With these kind of numbers there will soon be more terrorists in America than Police Officers.

By the way one of the Border Patrol Officers also stated that about 10% of those coming over the border are Muslims.

Thanks, but Cindy caught it first.

If Syria was the unnamed country that is delivering the goods to Israel, then maybe there is still hope they will take the Libyan route. But recent history is still not encouraging.

If they yell and scream but do nothing, then it was them (it looks on the surface as if they are distancing themselves from Hamas). If they sponsor a retaliation with Hamas inside Israel, then this will escalate further.

Israel tried to kill Mashal in Amman in the late 90s and that was a huge deal. Almost destroyed the only friendly relationship they have with a neighboring Arab state (unless you count Egpyt, but not sure that is "friendly").

The Jordanians were so ticked that the Israleis had to give them the antidote for the poison they had administered. You don't whack people in a friendly country without a heads up. Not good manners.

If it was a big deal with the Jordanians in the much calmer pre-9/11 and pre-intifadeh world, it will be a huge deal with the Syrians in the critical situation the region is facing.

Syria may not have a choice but to react. If so, it will escalate further. No one wants the first Arab-Israeli war with massive use of WMD and Americans in the middle, but that is what we will get if we are not careful.

Israel is running out of Hamas leadership targets in Gaza. So they are hitting them in Damascus.

What bothers me is this:

Israel is willing to risk regional war to avenge dozens of its citizens killed on the orders of terrorists harbored by Syria (not hundreds - - that is the total body count, most sponsored from within the territories, not Syria).

Yet we have stood by for over a year as 1,000 American soldiers were killed by terrorists harbored and sponsored by Iran and Syria, the entire country of Iraq thrown into lawless chaos (the media is not exagerrating - - it *is* as bad as it looks), the population turned against us, and a popular nationalist insurgency taking root - - all of this transforming a liberation into a military occupation.

And we sat around and watched it happen.

Why?

Signs N.Korea Preparing a Missile Test a Worry-U.S.

Sun Sep 26, 2004 03:22 AM ET
By Linda Sieg

(snip)

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan (Reuters) - Signs that North Korea is preparing to test a ballistic missile are of great concern, a U.S. commander said on Sunday, adding that the North could be on the verge of big missile technology breakthroughs. The United States believes North Korea already has one or two nuclear weapons and it is known to have missiles that can reach parts of the United States, as well as most of Asia."We all remember that in 1998 they fired that missile that went across the northern part of Japan ... and landed out in the Pacific Ocean," U.S. Pacific Air Forces Commander Gen. Paul V. Hester told reporters, referring to a North Korean missile test."So that is of great concern to this area of the Pacific, and ... it's of great concern to our friends in Japan," Hester said of indications the North was preparing a fresh test.Japanese and U.S. government sources have said in recent days there were signs North Korea, labeled part of an "axis of evil" by President Bush, was preparing to test a ballistic missile.Engineers and vehicles carrying liquid fuel have been seen gathering at North Korean bases housing missiles capable of striking most of Asia and parts of the United States, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said on Sunday.Citing Japanese and U.S. government sources, the newspaper said increased activity had been seen at bases designed to launch Taepodong-2 missiles, which have with a range of between 2,175 miles and 3,700 miles as well as Rodong missiles with a range of about 800 miles.Rodong missiles are capable of reaching any part of Japan, the paper said. North Korea is believed to have deployed as many as 200 of the missiles.Japanese and South Korean authorities have played down the possibility that a launch was imminent and North Korea said the reports of launch preparations were "speculation."

Increased activity fixed at ten North Korean missiles bases

26.09.2004, 07.21

TOKYO, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - An increased activity has been fixed at ten military bases in North Korea, where ballistic missiles Nodon with the range of 1,300 kilometres are situated, the Iomiuri newspaper quoted Japanese and U.S. government sources as saying referring to data by reconnaissance satellites and other surveillance means.

Earlier, an intensive movement of military hardware and personnel, as well as the transportation of nuclear fuel were fixed only at objects in western North Korea. Then, Japan qualified that activity as preparations for a missile launch or an engine test, the newspaper noted.

Now, similar movement is fixed everywhere, including in the zone of silos, which have missiles with an estimated range of up to 6,000 kilometres, capable to reach the U.S. territory.

However, it is not ruled out that the current activity is just part of a large-scale military exercise, the newspaper quoted a high-ranking government official in Japan as saying. The fact that the activity is also registered in other units of the Korean army, including its air force and naval units, testifies to this.

The Japanese defence agency is expected to observe round the clock the activity in North Korea, with the use of all surveillance means.

A moratorium on missile tests was introduced in North Korea after part of a missile launched by Pyongyang flew over Japan and sank in the Pacific Ocean in 1998.

Well -- this is comforting. Depending on where this thing goes KFB (Ka-F--king BOOM)in DC, I am pretty much a dead man! My home would likely be within a six mile circle of from the center of the blast -- if they choose a high profile target! So my wife and kids are pretty much toast.

I will be about 15 miles out, but I better move to the interior of my office quickly, as I sit in front of a wall of windows facing DC -- which just might cut me to ribbons!

This does NOT sound good!!!!
Supposedly the web-bots are "predicting" something major Sept 27-28--wonder if it could refer to NK firing a missile or testing a nuke, rather than the terrorism we all worry about here.

From- Council on Foreign Relations fact sheet on Nuclear Terrorism: (old)(2001)

"Some experts also worry about Pakistan, a relatively recent nuclear power and now a key coalition member in the war on terrorism with untested security systems, dozens of nuclear weapons, and many Islamist militants who sympathize with Osama bin Laden. The United States recently offered to help Pakistan improve its nuclear security measures. Pakistan reportedly began quietly accepting American help in early November 2001.

Have any Russian nuclear weapons gone missing?

There have been no confirmed reports of missing or stolen former Soviet nuclear weapons. Still, there is ample evidence of a significant black market in nuclear materials.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported 175 nuclear smuggling incidents since 1993, 18 of which involved highly enriched uranium, the key ingredient in an atomic bomb and the most dangerous product on the nuclear black market.

Have terrorist organizations ever tried to obtain Russian nuclear weapons?

Yes. Russian authorities say that in the past three years alone, they have broken up hundreds of nuclear-material smuggling deals.

In October 2001, shortly after the World Trade Center attacks, a Russian nuclear official reported having foiled two separate incidents over the previous eight months in which terrorists had “staked out” a secret weapons storage site.

In the 1990s, U.S. authorities discovered several al-Qaeda plots to obtain nuclear materials, and CIA Director George Tenet recently told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that Osama bin Laden had sought to “acquire or develop a nuclear device.”

Could terrorists steal a Russian nuclear weapon?

It’s hard to say. Russian authorities say their nuclear weapons are under “safe and reliable” protection against a wide range of terrorist attacks.

But Western analysts still worry that Russian security may be lax. And other Russian nuclear materials are less well-protected, including storage sites for an estimated 1,100 metric tons of highly enriched uranium and 160 metric tons of plutonium.

Unfortunately, I can hardly be called impartial when it comes to Israel, so dont judge my response on the whole as being such. Just a disclaimer before I start.

My best answer in all of this is politics, especially the love affair between the left and the terrorists.

Both Israel and the US have more than their fair share of population who espouse leftist views that complicates the conflict and in some cases, literally cause defeats after we have won decisive victories.

I cant help but believe some of this is by design and cooperative partnerships between the left and the terrorists ( definition: Al Qaeda, Hizbullah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the PA) which cause enough political confusion that it translates down to the troops on the ground. The ground zero for this movement can be seen in the Islamic presence in Academia and the campuses of this country.

Until both Israel and the US are free of this complication, we are seemingly doomed to be perpetually befuddled in our policies and weakened in our foreign presence. This will encourage more problems on the ground.

We cant lose the war, but some of our population cannot be satisfied with us winning it. Its the strangest paradox in history.
