The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

Yup, just finished putting up the shutters on the front doors, last ones. Went on the roof to slap some tar on a suspected leak spot. THEN I noticed the wind really kicking up! You don't notice it too much on the ground in the neighborhood, because the homes block wind access. But up on the roof, it was strong and gusty. I finished up fast and got down. Now just waiting.

Re- the nukes. I believe from what I've read that the AQ "nukes" are all about in the range of a one kiloton weapon. Reportedly, OBL obtained several Paki nukes from 2 rogue scientists connected with Khan.

He also obtained non-working suitcase weapons from former states of the Soviet Union- and paid scientists from Russia, Pakistan and even China to bring the weapons back into working order. Reportedly the Chinese provided the titrium (sp?) triggers needed for the nukes.

So I'm guessing we would be looking at- generally- a one kiloton size weapon.

You would definitely get the visuals depicted in the images.

I wonder if there was some concern about infiltration of flight controllers?

It's been jogging a bit N of west for the past few hours. You should still see a few hours of Tropical Storm force winds. Unfortunately for folks up to your north, it looks like the eye-wall is contracting and re-organizing. I wouldn't be surprised to see this thing bump up to 130-135 sustained before landfall.

I fear that hurricane fatigue has caused this one to fall a bit under the radar, it looks like it's going to be a bad one.

This is a great loop:

you can see the NE Quad becoming more streamline, the eye-wall being replaced and the Northerly jog very well.

Yes- it seems that Canada is not only a source of potential terrorists entering the US- but also the country to which they have been urged to "flee" prior to the attacks.

"one of the targets may be in the Great Lakes (Lake Erie) area."

Any thoughts on where?

Didn't we see some images of the Great Lakes- tht crude drawing with the railroad tracks and the bomb?

From Mutter's- Putin planning on visiting China, also this:

Taiwan PM vows to retaliate Chinese attacks amid anti-arms deal protest

TAIPEI (AFP) Sep 25, 2004

Taiwan Premier Yu Shyi-kun on Saturday vowed to retaliate should China launch missile attacks against the island as thousands of Taiwanese took to the streets to protest against the government's massive arms package.

"You (China) have the capability to destroy me and Taiwan should have the capability to counter. You strike me with 100 missiles and I should at least strike back with 50," Yu told a gathering of government officials.

"You strike Taipei and Kaohsiung and I shall strike Shanghai. This way Taiwan will be safe," he added.

Yu's rebuff, his strongest ever, came as thousands of people rallied in the rains against the government's plans for an 18 billion US dollar arms deal they say will lead to an arms race with rival China.

"Refuse raising debts to purchase weaponry," chanted protestors, while marching towards the Presidential Office.

"I think the government should focus on improving the sluggish economy instead of spending so much money on buying weapons," Huang Chung-chang, a 42-year-old engineer who marched with his two children, told AFP.

A "love and peace" concert is scheduled to take place outside the Presidential Office in the evening. Organizers expected more than 10,000 people to take part of the rally but police estimated a turnout of about half that.

Many protestors also held cups of "bubble milk tea," a popular drink in Taiwan, to mock the defense ministry's "drinking less bubble milk tea for arms procurement" advertisement campaign.

The ministry drew criticism after it called on the public to consume less bubble milk tea to save money for the mass arms spending.

Taiwan's cabinet on June 2 approved the special budget of 610.8 billion Taiwan dollars (18.2 billion US) to purchase weaponry from the United States. It is pending final approval by parliament.

It has stirred up heated debate on the island with critics, including about 170 retired generals, warning the hefty military spending would further provoke China and heighten cross-Strait tensions.

Others worry the government would be forced to raise debts or cut social welfare and education budgets for the arms deal.

Taiwan's opposition leader Lien Chan also voiced his disapproval of the special defense budget during a party gathering on Saturday.

"Such a hefty arms procurement should not be handled recklessly and we think it's time to slash military spending and put more money into public welfare," he said.

The arms package includes eight diesel-powered submarines, a modified version of the Patriot anti-missile system and a fleet of anti-submarine aircraft over a 15-year period beginning in 2005.

The government has defended the arms deal by stressing the growing military threats from China.

China regards Taiwan as a part of its territory awaiting to be reunified despite their split in 1949 after a civil war.

Missiles on the move in North Korea:

Rodong missile units seen on move in N Korea's northwest

http://www.japantoday.com/e/?conten...cat=1&id=313275

TOKYO — Information from U.S. reconnaissance indicates that a number of military vehicles carrying medium-range Rodong missiles have been on the move in the northwestern part of North Korea, sources close to Japan-U.S. relations said Friday.

The information, mainly obtained through radio transmissions and U.S. surveillance satellites, comes as the Japanese government is becoming convinced that North Korea is preparing an engine-combustion test for a new missile in the northeast of the country, the sources said. (Kyodo News)

This is a better link for depicting the effects of a nuclear weapon detonation.

So I'm guessing we would be looking at- generally- a one kiloton size weapon.

That's still a serious concern. I'm afraid some folks might treat this like a category 1 Hurricane and say Oh well, heck it's ONLY a 1KT device so .....no worries! That's still a yield of One THOUSAND TONS of T.N.T.! And don't forget the gamma radiation and EMP generated by the blast itself. I also thought I heard that it's not certain how big the aforementioned nukes are. IIRC they're in the range from .2 KT (two hundred tons of tnt) up to TEN KT which is almost the size of the Hiroshima bomb. Any city that is on the receiving end of either end of that range is in for a lot of death.

I most definitely agree.

It is also likely that AQ would plan for more than one weapon per city- in case one fizzled or was detected.

I've found alot of info on the effects of a 1 kiloton weapon- and it is chilling.

Incidentally, when the "Genesis project" was developed- by planners in the Frederick, MD area- to handle survivors of an attack on DC or Baltimore- they specifically chose to deal with the effects of a 1 kiloton weapon. Could be just coincidence- could be they know something.
