The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

If there had been the same irrational attitude during WWII toward the Nazis [Only "some" Nazis are bad] as we have toward the Islamics [only "some" islamics are bad], we'd have never won WWII.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here. It's quite true that the Islamists want world domination and the killing of all "infidels" (as they see them - anyone who doesn't subscribe to their version of Islam, and most especially all Christians and Jews). But NB: The Islamists aren't all of Islam, and certainly not in this country. If you're trying to say that all Muslims are the equivalent of Nazis, that syllogism is roughly equivalent to saying that all German Christians during WWII subscribed to the Nazi ideology - which is patently not true.

Not at all to say that the Islamists aren't a significant slice of Islam; they're a pretty small minority in this country but in many other places they are a significant minority or even a majority. It's quite possible that they make up a majority of Muslims worldwide, mostly because of the huge numbers of disenfranchised peasants (for want of a better description) who inhabit the third world; however it's hard to get accurate numbers. Not that their illiteracy and poverty means that they aren't extremely dangerous, of course.

The fact is that historically Islam has had a fair amount of religious toleration for Christians within its borders, for example for the Orthodox and Coptic churches in Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and the Middle East, or even for the Hindus under the rule of the Moguls. That toleration does not look particularly generous by modern Western standards but in many respects it was more so than was tolerated of religious dissenters in Europe at the time. However the Islamists want to throw all of that on the trash heap and bring everyone in the world into Islam by brute force, or else kill them in the process.

Since I'm not a Muslim I can't really presume to judge which strain of thought in Islam is the one that is the "truer" version of their religion, and I don't really think it matters in any event if the more moderate schools of thought eventually prevail. As an outsider looking in, at the moment things look rather bleak for the moderates amoung them. Many of the moderate Muslims are quite reasonable people, though IMHO in many respects their religious system is one that only a Pharisee could love.

If you examine the teachings of the Islamists they look like about the closest thing the world has seen to the prophecies of Daniel and John since the days of Nero ... even down to the Beast and the False Prophet. They may very well be about to fulfill that role - with great danger to the rest of the world and to the everlasting shame of their coreligionists who did nothing to stop them.

They are the one who are blackening the face of Islam.'

You're welcome! Until the decent Muslims begin to speak out and help us round up the rogue expatriate Muslims, how can we not look at each of them as possible expatriate Muslims ready to do us in? We need more than lip service from them - actions speak louder than words!

The Inspector: Then we have Number Four, Number Four: "Crunchy Frog".

Mr. Hilton: Ah, yes?

The Inspector: Am I right in thinking there's a real frog in 'ere?

Mr. Hilton: Yes, a little one.

The Inspector: What sort of frog??

Mr. Hilton: A... dead frog.

The Inspector: Is it cooked??

Mr. Hilton: We use only the finest baby frogs, dew-picked and flow from Iraq, cleansed in the finest quality spring water, lightly killed, and sealed in a succulent Swiss quintuple-smooth treble-milk chocolate envelope, and lovingly frosted with glucose.

The Inspector: That's as may be, but it's still a frog!

Mr. Hilton: What else?

The Inspector: Well, don't you even take the bones out??

Mr. Hilton: If we took the bones out, it wouldn't be crunchy, would it?

Radical American Based Militant Web Site Continues to Air Demands and Decapitations (Includes Disturbing Video)

Behind-the-scenes negotiations are being held to free two Americans and a Briton threatened with beheading by their abductors in Iraq.

The video demand, available for download on www.hostinganime.com/iraqnews3 (a site that has made available many of the horrific decapitations of recent months), was the first word on the fate of the three captured engineers since they were seized in a dawn raid on Thursday from their home in a Baghdad neighborhood.

The Three Captured Engineers

The wife of one of the Americans, the BBC reported, has sent a tape to Arabic TV pleading for their release.

In her plea, Agence France Presse said that speaking on CNN and addressing her husband's captors, Hensley's wife Patty called her husband "a simple, generous man who loves the Iraqi people and has made many friends while in Iraq. Since Jack has been a guest in your country he has been treated with honor and dignity ... We ask for your mercy in freeing Jack and his co-workers so that they can continue to return home to their loving families, and it is your decision whether this happens."

Britain's foreign ministry has also made a plea for help. But there is no word on the men as a militant-imposed deadline draws closer.

The captors, reportedly supporters of al-Qaeda suspect Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, want all female Iraqi prisoners freed.

According to the BBC, Washington says it has only two women detainees in custody in Iraq - biologists accused of developing weapons.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair met his Iraqi counterpart Iyad Allawi in London on Sunday for talks that included discussion of the hostages, the BBC reported, Briton Kenneth Bigley, and Americans, Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong.

"Our governments are working closely on it," the BBC reported  Blair said after the talks.
British foreign office spokesman Dean McLoughlin went on the Arabic television station al-Arabiya, the BBC reported, to appeal "for any information that could help ... in releasing" Bigley.

The group said to be holding the hostages is Tawhid and Jihad (Unification and Holy War).

In London, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said his government would not bow to the captors' demands.

In the hostage video, kidnappers claiming to be part of Tawhid and Jihad – a group led by Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi – demanded that Iraqi women detained at two American-controlled prisons here are freed within 48 hours or the captives will be beheaded.
The footage showed the three hostages sitting on the floor, blindfolded but apparently unharmed. Each identified himself and said, "My job consists of installing and furnishing camps at Taji base," referring to a U.S. base 15 miles north of Baghdad.

At one point, the rifle of an armed militant pointed down at the head of the man who identified himself as Hensley.

"God's soldiers from Tawhid and Jihad were able to abduct three infidels of God's enemies in Baghdad," the Associated Press (AP) reported a black clad militant said, standing behind the men as he read from a statement.

"They offer logistic support to American troops in Iraq, as was shown from investigation and the documents seized with them," he said.

If their demand is not met, the AP reported the speaker warned, "by the name of God, these three hostages will get nothing from us except their throats slit and necks chopped, so they will serve as an example."

U.S. Embassy officials were not immediately available to comment. A British diplomat in Baghdad said the embassy was aware of the tape but would not comment. The men's employer, Gulf Supplies and Commercial Services, refused comment when contacted by the AP.

The masked man in the video, the AP reported, accused Iraq's interim president of enabling whom he dubbed "infidel foreigners" to "violate the honor of Muslim women, humiliate people and suck up the riches of the country."

Also available for download at www.hostinganime.com/iraqnews3 is a grizzly beheading video called turky2, which shows the brutal decapitation of a hostage. The slaying apparently occurred on Aug. 17 2004. Although two individuals are initially shown, only one of them is seen being beheaded.

While some Hosting Anime Jihadi sites are no longer on line, many others are. The company has a track record of hosting such sites under the banner of First Amendment freedoms.

Commenting on the company's apparent hosting of these sites, a Hosting Anime company official was asked earlier this year on a company forum site, "Did you know your services are being used as the official web page for the group that beheaded the American in Saudi? I would hope your company is smart to remove this site from your database."

A Hosting Anime official initially thanked the individual for bringing fact that to his attention.

However, when the site remained on line, another letter was written to Hosting Anime, (sic) "This is ... pathetic. Delete it already. Block the freaking IP address. QUIT ALLOWING TERRORIST WEBSITES TO BE HOSTED ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR DAYS BEFORE YOU GET RID OF THEM. Block this IP, find all other ones, block them. You are American? Quit letting them spread their message unless you agree with what they do."

He received this response from Hosting Anime.

"We will look into this manner when we have time, this is a free hosting company, and there are no profits being made, so that we can afford to sit and review all emails/abuse reports as this takes a large amount of time. Please give us time to get that done, in the mean time, please take the first amendment into consideration, free speech, just because you don't like the content of a site does that mean it should be shutdown?

"An email sent to me this morning I think is worth posting on the subject:
"‘Hey, screw those people that didn't like the site. They didn't have to go there to begin with, and whoever accused you of supporting terrorism has totally lost it. What about us who want to know why these people think the way they do and act the way they do ??? It's about communicating and I think it SUCKS that you cave to a few that would rather just throw a blanket over their head's and hope when they lift it off themselves, everything will be just fine. It makes me SICK !!'
"As stated, we will take a look into this site and see what can be done in good time."

In response to a further complaint, the Hosting Anime System Administrator wrote,       "Thank you for your additional comments on this matter, nothing can be done at this time, we will review the site and decide what is best.

"If you have looked at some of our users web pages, you will see that there are no banners/pop ups on our users pages, that means no income. If you don't want me to use that excuse, what excuse would you like to hear? It's either I lie to you or tell you the truth, I have told you the truth, if you don't accept that, feel free to imagine whatever you would like."

Hosting Anime appears to host its terror sites by renting space on the servers of the Houston based Everyone's Internet, which has hosted sites in the past for groups such as the Hamas.

Bush Faces Global Critics at U.N. This Week
Sun Sep 19, 2004 01:30 PM ET

By Steve Holland
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two years after he made a case against Iraq over unconventional weapons that were never found, President Bush faces global critics at the United Nations this week to argue it is essential that war-ravaged Iraq become a stable democracy.

Bush makes his annual trek to New York to speak to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday. His remarks are likely to be seen in an election-year context, at a time of rising casualties in Iraq, fears of civil war and questions about whether national elections can be held in January as scheduled.

Bush's speech will be a mixture of talking up his hopes for success in Iraq and Afghanistan -- where a struggle is taking place to hold elections Oct. 9 -- and emphasizing U.S. efforts to assist the global fight against AIDS, hunger, illiteracy and poverty.

"All the world can be certain: America and our allies will keep our commitments to the Afghan and Iraqi people. Our long-term security -- the safety of our children and grandchildren -- will be served when the broader Middle East is home to stable, democratic governments that fight terror," Bush said in his weekly radio address on Saturday.

Many world leaders who opposed Bush on Iraq will be listening carefully to what he says about the situation there. He will be able to point to Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi as an example of a new generation of Iraqi leadership. He will meet Allawi at the White House on Thursday.

"He's a tough guy," Bush said at a campaign event on Friday in Charlotte, N.C. "He believes that Iraq should be free and he cares about the hopes and aspirations of the Iraqi people."

But there are likely to be some skeptics in the U.N. audience. U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said last week he believes the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was a violation of international law.

It was two years ago at the U.N. General Assembly that Bush challenged world leaders to back up sanctions against Iraq with the threat of severe consequences for Saddam Hussein if he did not disarm, and the Security Council responded with a unanimous vote.

But months later, after U.N. weapons inspectors failed to find weapons of mass destruction, the United Nations refused to back Bush's call for war, and Bush launched the conflict with support from 35 nations. That coalition is now dwindling even as an Iraqi insurgency increases attacks.

A key argument Bush is making on the campaign trail is that Iraq is better off without Saddam in power. The CIA has warned of the possibility that Iraq could descend into civil war.

Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has been stepping up his attacks on Bush over the war. He accused Bush last week of "living in a fantasy world of spin" and failing to tell the truth about chaos and violence in Iraq.

While in New York, Bush will meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who survived an assassination attempt last week, and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, an ally in the effort to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda threat along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

"While in New York, Bush will meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who survived an assassination attempt last week, and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, an ally in the effort to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda threat along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border."

It would be a coup for AQ to pull something off in NYC this week.

Major world players are in town.

Heads up!
