This reminds me of one of the most well documented cases of a haunting in American History. It's called The Bell Witch of Tennessee.

A book was written about the events by Charles Bailey Bell, the grandson of one of John Bell Jr I believe.

Someone is supposed to be in the process of making a movie about this too. Hope it is released soon. It will be a goodie.

I deal with such things . . .

only when I have to and God makes it clear I have to.

Thanks much, anyway.

CurlyBill, it was my mother who passed onto me my interest in the paranormal. My dad encouraged my study of psycholinguistics. I, too, have seen, heard, and witnessed fascinating, otherworldly events. I studied parapsychology intensely over a 7-year period, years ago. And what I continue to study continues to re-affirm to me "energies". And yes, there are good and bad energies. In interviews with those who've had experiences with the "paranormal"; one of the questions I ask the person is: What were you thinking about forebrain when the event happened? Tell me what's going on in your life right now?

Why these questions?

So many years of evidence have proven to me there are reasons that these "occurrences" happen. I do not write these off to hallucination. And in re "group experiences" of the paranormal; I study the focus and roots of the existence of this group -- as there is almost always a shared sliver of something. The trick is in finding that something; being a good listener, good questioner, and actually caring about those you are trying to help.

Successful ghostbusters tend to acknowledge or even to pick-up on a particular "vibration", so to speak, and will thereby use language choices which do more to address the person than the "paranormal" stir-er. Do I believe that matter can be moved by human "thought energies"? Yes. I don't uphold the theory that Uri Geller was a complete fraud, for example. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is more to heaven and earth than we can even begin to imagine. There are dimensions that go on all the time around us; sometimes we witness these dimensions. Now, in America, there is tremendous spiritual battle going on just under the surface of what we call "concensus" reality.

And each person has other dimensions they are a part of and involved with. Lastly, Prayer is a very powerful, powerful thing. Liberals pray for the downfall of America -- they have, most overtly, since the 60s. Witness America and the world under attack by evil forces with no moral conscience whatsoever.

I brought up the Tides Foundation flyer, as I found it most curious, especially in light of the alleged suicide. More data will come, I've no doubts of this. I'll understand more about it; and because I will focus an aspect of my mind and heart upon learning in these matters -- ergo, "funny" bits will appear to me. William F. Buckley used to encourage everyone to "pray always and constantly" -- and he's right. Prayer is most powerful.

In re your parents.

My own mom told me years and regularly before her passing, that she would contact me from beyond if and when she might. I've seen her twice since 1980. And each time, was in connection to whether to "fight" or not, some hidious problem/issue. I've heard her voice, her special words more often. I can explain this in practical terms, logically, or I can choose to be as appreciate and grateful as I am for these experiences. Sounds like you love(d) your parents very much.! NO doubts, they love(d) you very much too.

Ghosts can certainly be a nuisance but I don't know why people get so upset about them or consider them to be a "torment." Generally if they're too big a problem you can get rid of them. I find that wearing a cross or invoking the Name of Jesus makes them stop bugging you.

Well, they can be a nuisance. Take the instance of carkeys. They are there; then not; there then not. For example. Then there are the nuisances which bother and torment the sound and restful sleep or daily actions of a person. Then there are gross, disgusting ones; sounds and smells and threatening, menacing presences.

Oh my word.. I've just described the behaviors if not modus of liberal protestors at the GOP convention...

As I said, I know it can be annoying. One of my closest friends has some very annoying ghosts that make it so difficult for her guests to sleep that they end up snapping angrily at the ghosts, to little avail, and now are refusing to visit. But as I say, one can get rid of them or keep them under good control. Some people simply do not take a firm line with them and then they end up practically running the place. No different in that regard than dogs or children, really.

After the recent atrocities against innocent people in Russia and Iraq, not to mention the demented fanaticism in the streets of New York, old-fashioned spook stories are almost comforting...

Ghost-story fans should check out the works of M.R. James -- possibly the greatest author in the genre.

At the risk of sounding like a nut- I had to tell you this little story. A few months ago I read one of Curly's pings which led me in a round about way to a website where you could listen to "recordings". While I don't know if ghost are real or not I've always had a fun time being spooked by the stories I've read. A few weeks after I found the website my mom wanted to visit a cemetery near the church she attended when she was little.

On a whim I grabbed my tape recorder and brought it with me mostly out of fun but I have to admit a little curiosity too! As we walked through the cemetery I held my tape recorder in front of me. Besides the brush under our feet, the birds singing and our voices there were no other noises.

Many of the graves in the small cemetery were unmarked and a few of the headstones were completely broken off leaving no mark of who was lying beneath them. And so towards the end of the walk my sister and I began to joke and hold the tape recorder up to the broken headstones saying, "Who's here? What's your name?" Of course we elicited no responses and so we finally left.

A few days later I finally sat down with my headphones and listened to what I thought was going to be a really boring recording of us walking through a cemetery, but what I heard instead made my hair stand on end. The "things" I heard came at the end of our walk just as we were about to leave. The first was when I jokingly held the recorder up to the tombstone and asked "What's your name?" It sounded as if someone had stuck their face up to the microphone and whispered "look" right into the recorder. I heard that same whisper "look" twice on the recorder. But the creepiest thing I heard was right after my sister went on a tangent about how bad the cemetery looked. She remarked that the graves should be dug up and moved and the cemetery burned (she's 17!), just after she says that something in the background says, "you can't burn".

Were those ghostly voices or just a glitch in my cassette tape? I don't know, the only two things I know for sure: those were NOT our voices and I'm still having fun believing!!

Very good story! I am a believer. I have had 3 or 4 different occasions in my life when happenings could not be logically explained. My family, overall , is very religious. I had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Only 3 of the boys remain, but I still have both of my sisters.

We all are getting up there in age. My best friend and older brother, "Don", passed on in 2002. Don has always been irresponsible with just about everything. He was at times a worry.
In his younger days, he was pretty much a social drinker that drank, until the sun came up. The last 15 years of his life, he lived alone and was bothered with health problems that included arthritis of the spine. He took lots of pain killers.
He had many stories of people that he had seen at the end of his bed or in his apartment. Of course, these stories were not just in his final years of life, they occurred over his lifetime.
We all just laughed at him and his stories and kind of shrugged them off as his mind playing tricks on him, caused from the booze and pills.
A few years ago, he was in the hospital with heart problems. He had previously had open heart bypass surgery. I went to see him in the hospital on a Sunday. He had another one of his stories. He said at 3AM that morning, a man and 3 or 4 other people came into his Intensive Care room. He said they were all dressed nicely. The man told him that, "he would be crossing over, soon, and they just wanted to insure him he had nothing to be afraid of". He said they, then turned and walked out of the room and immediately afterwards, a nurse walked in.
He asked her about the people and she said , there hasn't been anyone here , but the nursing staff. He tried to get her to call his family, but she would not do it at that time in the morning.
He was visibly concerned about what had happened. There was not any laughing this time about what he had experience.
Five days later, he was back in his apartment and sleeping in his favorite recliner when he crossed over. He had a contented look on his face and the coroner said he simply went to sleep and never woke up.
We believe his visitors were possibly angels and were helping him accept the fact he was leaving this life.
Don was 69 and we tend to believe he is in heaven.

Capriole -- You hit a very important nail on the head in yours.

Some people simply do not take a firm line with them and then they end up practically running the place. No different in that regard than dogs or children, really.

You are right. You are absolutely RIGHT. It's that issue about "energies" again. Misplaced, or properly ordered. Makes far more sense to battle flesh & blood "ghosts" which are manifestations if not imprintations of "spooks" from other dimensions. Usually, ghosts fade with time if and when they are ignored. It's about "energies". And no person (or ghost) being an energy source of its own.

A parallel?

Imagine if the liberal protestors were never given as much media coverage as they have, and do?

Over time, they'd stop. Certainly, their numbers would dwindle.

There are, nonetheless, some horrific "hauntings" which require much more and expert approaches to dealing with.

I see Saddam Hussein (AQ, Terrorists) as such an "entity" -- in physical analogy to the topic here.

What a wonderful story!!!

My mom had been pronounced DOA 3 times; and been revived. The first time, it rocked her a great deal; why? As she was going "through the tunnel", she saw her long-deceased and beloved relatives behind a wee picket fence, waving to her, welcoming her. Then her mother said: not yet, lovee, not yet. And my mom re-entered her body. Just like that. Another time, the last time before she finally did leave us, she was going through the tunnel, and was on her way there; when she saw my face in a bubble saying: "I love you, mom. Don't leave yet." Sure enough, she came to, and the doctors rushed the icu. Well, I was there, the doctors had suggested the family gather -- my mom was "going". I was caressing her cheek and had leaned in and asked my "out of it" mother: "Mom, do you want to live?" Inside her cognition; she'd heard me say: Mom, I love you.

Through all these xperiences, what was my mom firm on? Each time, her deceased loved ones were there, waiting for her; to welcome her "home".

And yes, there are indeed angels. Your brother, I've no doubts, none -- was given a sending, and therefore, time to compose himself. What a loving gift to him!

Believe me, you are not a nut! A good friend of mine had his house "investigated" http://www.ghost-investigators.com/investigations/view_inv.php?inv_num=11 earlier this year. It was really my first introduction to ghost hunting. What I heard & saw from that website astounded me!! Listen to the EVP's from his house - they are truely incredible ("is anybody there", "feels good", etc.).

Because of this, I went head-first into learning about "ghost hunting". I bookmarked websites, read, purchased a digital recorder (with a plug-in mic), and EMF meter. My neighbor and I then went to the nearest cemetery and begin to take pictures and recording (picture a 36 year-old and 41 year-old, white-collared professionals, lurking around a cemetery in the dark with a Mercedes parked at the entrance!!).

On the short drive home, we began to listen to the recording: the hair on our heads just about stood up! The first EVP, ever, that we got was at the beginning of the recording. We had just taken a picture after the EMF meter spiked and you hear a child say "thank you"!! Next, we begin walking between the plots and I say hello... about 8 seconds later, as clear and as loud as can be, a deep male voice (imagine Larry King) says "hello". Also, whenever we say the EMF go off or "had a feeling, we took a picture. The bright, moving orbs we photographed are quite impressive.

On our next visit, we were really amazed... two of the EVP's were scary: in addition to the orb photos we took, we captured two more EVP's. We went back to the same spot where the child had said thank you and asked if he was there again - at that point, on the recorder, you hear a LOUD, high pitched scream! Later on, when getting back into the car, you hear a man scream "OUT"!!

Sometimes EVP's have to be listened to again and again, just to be heard - and then are subject to interpretation. So far, all of the EVP's we have gotten are loud and clearly understandable. I have downloaded all of them into .wav files, but I'm not sure how to attached them or post them. If anyones knows how, I would be more than happy to share them. In the interim, check out the aforementioned link and google EVP & ghosts. Almost all of the ghost hunting website post their investigation findings, EVP's, pictures (of orbs, ectoplasm, & vortexes), and video.

Believe me, I was a skeptic that never even thought about ghosts in a serious manner! What I have personally expereinced is nothing short of amazing. What I have realized, though, is that there is another "plane" another "side". The first night of personally capturing and hearing an EVP had a profound effect on me. Although my wife doesn't like my new-found interest and has asked me several times why couldn't have found a differant hobby, I think me and my neighbor might just head back out tonight!

Thank YOU!
Your story is uplifting and wonderful too.
What makes it all so wonderful, is knowing one day we can go live with them again. Makes it all worth it.
Your story, has made my day.
