Not necessarily. The 'Rats managed to recruit their best-known candidate, and one who is somewhat less liberal than other Colorado 'Rats. Meanwhile, the Republican primary got nasty, and Coors is an untested, first-time candidate. So it wasn't inevitible that things would come together like they have.

Actually this is great news considering the Rat had a double-digit lead a month ago.

Great news. Keeping CO in the hands of the GOP would go a long way to making sure we keep control of the Senate.

It would mean the RATs would have to win almost every other close race in order to seize control.

GREAT NEWS!...Thxs for the update, I heard it (the GOP race) was very nasty. Hopefully, the GOP can keep the Senate (Nighthorse's???) seat. :))

Don't know if this fact is well known: August Busch IV endorsed John Fraud Kerry for President. He also attended Klinton's innauguration, by invitation.

And now, knowing that Pete Coors is a Republican, I've switched permanently from Michelob to Coors.

I have great hopes for this one based on what I've learned about the how the Colo GOP's "ground game" pushed Sen. Allard over the top late last cycle. If they can do the same here, Coors can win. The wild card is how organized the Mexicans are. "Salazar" as a surname is an advantage in the new Colorado.

If Coors is within five points in the polls in the week before the election, he will win. That was the case with Allard, and Allard isn't nearly as popular as Coors.

What do y'all think of the sample for this poll? It has likely voters at 35R-32D-32Ind/Other. From what I remember that's close to the registration numbers, but wouldn't the actual voting numbers have fewer independents? Anyone have exit poll data from 2002 on the split? Independents/other favor Kerry and Salazar, which makes this a GREAT poll for Coors. Coors holds practically the entire GOP vote.

Question
 Horizontal % Vertical %
7. Party Identification ALL Strickland Allard Strickland Allard
Democrat 30% 83% 16% 55% 10%
Republican 40% 15% 84% 13% 67%
Independent 29% 51% 41% 32% 24%

It looks like exit polls in 96 (above) showed 40% Republican, 30 Democrat, 29 Independent. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/COSxp.html

Seems like the only problem SurveyUSA has is with its partisan breakdowns, which is why it gets screwy Cali #s sometimes.

Good news!

I keep telling people not to worry about this race. Am I sure we are going to win? No. But it's ours to lose.

I'd worry more about Alaska, North Carolina, Lousiana, and Florida.

It'll be interesting to see how this one comes to a head.

How did he get drafted for this Senate run, anyway?

I hope his victory doesn't leave the Dems with a bad taste in their mouths.

Alright. I'm bad punned-out. Sorry.

Try Blue Moon. It's a Coor's Belgian White Ale. Excellent!
