ARE BOOKSELLERS SUPPRESSING 'UNFIT FOR COMMAND' IN YOUR AREA?
Bookstore Employees LIE About UNFIT FOR COMMAND in Nashville; various FR posts ^ | August 19, 2004 | GretchenM

Are you having difficulty finding Unfit for Command locally, for reasons other than the publisher didn't print enough copies?

The thread linked above has numerous examples of book store employees standing in the consumer's way when they try to find this book.

Perhaps if FReepers list their experiences in one place we can see where the bottlenecks are (they seem to be scattered) and take action as appropriate to help the liberals now suppressing sales to see the error of their ways.

mystery1 wrote on the above-linked thread:

I live in San Diego and just called 2 Borders stores. I was told they don't have it in stock. When I asked why they wouldn't have a book in stock that was Number 1 on Amazon... I was told by one, that the book had errors in it and had to be sent back for corrections, and the second store told me that the book was pulled due to slander and they would get a revised book in soon.

I asked to speak to the manager in both cases and were told in both cases that they had just reprimanded the employee who told me that story.

After further conversation I was told by one of the managers that they had been getting repeat calls from someone who was saying the book was slanderous and not to sell it.

I have contacted their corporate offices and relayed my experience with their outlets, in a voice mail and asked for a return call.

I also contacted a Barnes and Noble store and was told they didn't have any and they blamed the publisher. I also spoke to the manager of that store and was told they only ordered 5 copies because they didn't expect that there would be that big demand for it.

Once I informed him that it was number on Amazon 2 weeks ago, and surely all stores would have known it was popular way in advance... he had no reply, except to refer me to the website for B&N where I could find contact info for their corporate offices.

At a Silicon Valley Borders yesterday I asked for it. The clerk told me they were sold out, but that more were being ordered and were on the way, and added without prompting that she hoped that the word would spread that Kerry is "unfit" to be president.

Just received my copy from amazon in the mail today.
Took a while, but the book hasn't been out that long.
I had pre-ordered.

Amazon is now reporting that "Unfit for Command" usually ships in 5 - 7 weeks. I believe that this means that it is not in stock.

Out of curiosity I visited the Barnes & Noble on 6th Avenue and 8th Street (Greenwich Village) in New York City on Wednesday. I didn't expect to find it there, because this particular branch heavily promotes anti-Bush books. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a stack of copies on the New Non-Fiction Releases table in the front of the store. A second stack was prominently placed in a display area at the information desk. I had already ordered the book from Amazon, so I didn't buy it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it out in the open.

If there are lies in the book, then it is the reader's job to identify and question them. The bookseller has the singular goal of passing a good on to the public.

Here's an even bigger question. How come the press isn't doing their job on this? They should be investigating the book, as they are doing. But they should also being investigating the well-documented charges. It is the biggest case of journalistic malfeasance that I have ever seen. They've blown their duty to the public.

SWIFTIES RULE...I've been on a waiting list for 4 books at B & N in Fashion Island, Newport Beach, CA. Went in person after the 1st week and they told me the publisher didn't expect it to be so popular and B & N was distributing in the East first. I asked how many they had on order and it was over 100. Called and got the same story but didn't admit my order was already there. Finally this afternoon they called that my books were in stock....huuummm...just happened to come in hours later! Called Borders and got the same publisher's story. It's sounding like they are all together in trying not to get this book out but FREEPERS...keep calling the bookstores. The sales people will get sick of it and hopefully give into the customers! I copied and pasted a photo of the book on an Email to lots of friends and told them to call B & N in their area. Most of them reported back the same, ole, tired story. Anybody else getting this?

This web page lists various sellers/prices/estimated ship dates. Note that Barnes and Noble list it as "n/a".

Not only is booksamillion listed, but there are other sellers such as Powells.
