Water that's only 5~6" above your knees doesn't sound like much,
but it doesn't take much to sweep you off your feet if there's a strong current down by your ankles.
I wouldn't stand in that water, at least not if I knew it was being stirred up by a hurricane. No telling when something is gonna swirl by and pull ya down.

They are saying the storm surge will completely wash over Sanibel and Captiva. They will be lucky if anything is left to salvage.

Both places were formed by hurricanes, looks like they may be destroyed by one now.

WBBH/WSVN: Sanibel Causeway is closed, and will not open before tomorrow morning (if it is not destroyed by the storm).

Forecasters advising anyone left to retreat to a bathroom and pulling a mattress over your head.

They are anticipating all hell to break loose within the next 60 minutes or so.

W. Better get down there as soon as possible and be visible giving aid quickly. Put him in a rain jacket and helmet and let W. be W. (i.e. post 9/11 at ground zero) and this thing will be over.

I haven't heard from my sister-in-law for about an hour. Last I heard, they were heading inland to stay with some friends. Still in the path of the storm, but away from their house right on one of the canals in Cape Coral.

I hope they call, if they can. I expect cellular communications to go down once the winds arrive.
