Thanks Riley. I've been listening to that. I'm going to sign off for the rest of the night probably. I have a weekly discussion group on Fridays. I'm going to try to remember everyone down there in my prayers this evening and tonight. Thanks for keeping this thread up!

Moving almost due north now: Seems to be just west of, or maybe just on top of, Arcadia closing in on the DeSota county line.

Well cheer up there is a daddy cardinal on my bird feeder having supper. He must be a great flyer because the wind is incredible here now. A fine reminder that no matter what, life goes on.

Could you mean Lakewood Ranch? Lakewood Ranch is a fairly large development by University Parkway (Sarasota/Manatee county line). That's 10+ miles from the Gulf so they should be OK.
I'm in Sarasota and we have wind and rain right now. Getting a little stronger.

That's cool! I'm currently at work, but I'm about to leave, and probably won't be back on until tomorrow, due to a discussion group I go to on Fridays. Thanks for your contributions to the thread!

sarasota probably getting the worst they will see right now.....charley is almost due east at this time......probably breezy and rainy but they definitely dodged a bullet with the earlier NE turn.

Your house can be replaced, take care of yourself and your pets. We're thinking about you all on this side of the coast.

Only shelter in Arcadia is having it's roof ripped off, hundreds of people inside.

I haven't been following closely, but it sounds like the hurricane has hit or is hitting where all the people from Tampa evacuated to. Is this true? Do they have safe places to stay, or are they just in hotels, or what?
These things just can't be predicted. Prayers for all.

Sure: Fl gets some tornadoes, but not many that far south.
(Waterspouts are common towards the coast.)
Tornadoes aren't too common in general in middle FL because the thunderstorms are (typically) from warm air rising up over land, not from rapidly-mixing frontal storms that the mid-west gets in Tornado Alley of Texas and the Mid-West.
