As a first-generation American I care passionately for this country and I fear for its future. And as an active Democrat, I support the Kerry-Edwards ticket for two fundamental reasons: First, I believe that their view of America and of our domestic economic and social priorities will improve the prospects of a better future for all Americans; and second, I believe that their view of America's position in the world and its relationship to our allies will make us safer in today's dangerous global environment.
The Bush administration came into office with a wealth of experience and a radical view of our domestic as well as of our foreign policy. Their domestic economic policies consisted of large transfers of wealth to upper-income Americans through tax cuts, of large deficits, a cheap dollar and high levels of debt. Significant increases in defense, a recession and the war in Iraq added hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit. Internationally, the administration took an equally radical approach, jeopardizing 50 years of American leadership on a whole range of international institutions and agreements.
The initial reaction of the Bush administration to the events of 9/11 was thoroughly effective and professional. It assembled a broad international coalition, under a U.N. resolution, and won a quick military victory in Afghanistan. And then it was diverted to Iraq, ignoring the objections of key allies and the U.N. and ending up in the morass we see today.
Four years into its term, both the domestic and foreign policies of the Bush administration have, in many respects, failed. Our budget, currency, debt and trade balance, have all deteriorated dramatically; our deficits and sagging dollar have raised the potential of an eventual financial crisis. What is more, I believe that Americans are less safe -- despite the capture of Saddam Hussein -- and less well off, despite the rise in the stock market.

I agree with you. But what is more shocking--and revealing of an alarming amount of naivete--is that the author does not know or does not reveal the well-publicized reasons why France and Germany did not join in the US-UK coalition against Saddam: 1) Existing commercial benefits with the Saddam regime and 2) A desire to create a European counterbalance against the US Super-de-Duper-Power. What France--and in the past 6 months less vocally, Germany--has done since 9/11 is precisely in the Gallic self-interest.
*yawn*
wow that was, shall I say....boring! nothing new, nothing new.
Dems will be dems.
You can easily see the same setup being executed in California by governors Davis and Schwarzenegger. It's no wonder so much campaign cash comes from this same crowd.
I don't think all the CFR/Bilderberger types are all evil. I think some are. And I think this is an evil-CFR guy, global conspirator, all that stuff. Just call it a hunch.
"has helped defuse the oftentimes anti-American rhetoric of the French Establishment."
Written NOV 2000. And Felix, dude - thanks fer nothing.
"There is an integration taking place in business and investment, both within Europe and between Europe and the U.S., that will far outpace the political integration in Europe--and will drive it. And those investment flows to the U.S. will mean hundreds of thousands of new Americans working for European companies,. . . " [LINK]
Stop the merry-go-around and let me off here, if that's so.

Why? It's crap from the first attack.
Not sure about compensation, but this piece (of crap) was on the main editorial page where you might normally see a column from Peggy Noonan or Dorthy Rabinowitz or Dan Henninger (or the leaders of 12 European nations expressing their solidarity with the US), not on the letters page.
And remember, Edwards both attended and spoke at the Bilderberger event this year.
It would be critical to have a respected financial type endorsing Kerry and getting this word out in front, in light of the US Commerce's head, Tom Donahue, who "recently vowed to find the 'best people and greatest assets' to fight a Kerry-Edwards ticket, according to the Wall Street Journal." Thanks!
Did the other editors have any comments yet on his bilge?
I guess it begs the question: Mr. Rohatyn, who gives a sh*t??
I think everyone named Felix is, or should, vote for Kerry. Throw in a Poindexter and some Nimrods.
The rest of us can vote for Bush.
He would like to return as Ambassador to France.
He has a lot of old friends there who hate America. They can sip French wines and eat French brie cheese and condemn America. Of course there is an overage of French wines and cheeses since Americans and Brits have boycotted these products.
George $oreA$$ probably paid this clymer to write this bilge.
Biting the hand that feeds you: Felix, meet George Soros. George, meet Felix. Overheard from yet another first generation American "These two guys are girly-men."
Cripes! What a slimey French Frog this clymer is.
"Felix, meet George Soros. George, meet Felix. Overheard from yet another first generation American "These two guys are girly-men."
I'm sure that these two Girly Druggies are really good old buddies. So did Felix write this article to go to bed with $oreA$$ or did $oreA$$ pay Felicia to write this slime hit piece.
Thanks GrampaDave for the article on Felix. It certainly gives us some needed perspective on where he is politically, and, surprise!, why he is voting for Kerry.
The premise, repeated ad nauseum, that Kerry will have better relations with the UN and France and Germany is probably true. Kerry is a socialist, and will get along just fine with his fellow socialists running the UN and Europe.
It has become obvious that France, Germany and the UN were never going to go with us into Iraq, because they were making oodles of money off the backs of the suffering Iraqi people with their Oil for Iraqi Blood program.
And that is why I am voting for Bush.
This is about looting America through its financial system, with Royhatin as a highly placed bag man. Believe me, nobody paid him to write it.
I am glad you are able to explain the Washington lobbyists issues and the excessive price of drugs.
