Update:
IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'
The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.
A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.
The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.
The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.
Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.
"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.
He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.
"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."
Oh dear DU is going to be upset.
" How about:
Bush forgets what day it is and turns Iraq over by mistake."
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL :)
The morning network shows have been saying that for a long time. For example, in the Central time zone, they say their broadcast is live. Actually, it is an hour delayed of the live Eastern broadcast. Only if/when some real 'live' event happens, do they actually go live beyond the Eastern broadcast. I suppose their excuse would be 'tape delayed----by an hour'.
OMG Knock me over! Shumer is complimenting President Bush and saying turning over power is a very smart move.
Schumer is still calling for more troops, hinted about only certain people, (gave example of white man land owner being only ones allowed to vote.)
Congratulations to Iraq, I look forward to your future!
ps: those dinars might prove to be a good investment in the long run.
Now Shumer's talking about "a second 9-11, God forbid." Shame on Fox.
Someone ought to splain time zones to a couple of 'em. They seem to think that when it's night here, it's also night in Iraq.
The Monday news cycle was building up to be a nonstop F911 Moore Orgasmathon. Now the POS "movie" will not even be mentioned today.
What's with the OLD IRAQI FLAG? Have they backed away from the new design because of the blue stripes that caused such commotion?
Oh my, Rush's show is going to be a keeper today.
lol at orgasmithon! right on.
Also I heard on the Radio that Bush had been talking to Allawi about it a few days and it was ultimately his decision.
I really like this Allawi guy.
Very nice! Good move!
WOOHOO! GO IRAQ GO! BRILLIANT!
....I wonder if a full attack on Fallujah is going to happen??....
Me too. They have been repeatedly warned but failed to save themselves.
If Kerry were president, Theresa would turn us over to the UN where she used to do something destructive. He's not trying to become the leader of all the people if he snubbed the mayor. What if he can't attend his own convention because of pickets? What a doofus.
Yes. It is amazing to see the pix of the Iraqi stores. Tons of appliances and goods. Right after the fall of Saddam, there was such a run on satellite TV dishes, that they were making makeshift antennae/dishes just to get any worldly news and information.
Under Saddam, a select group had all the conveniences, while the others lived in poverty with state handouts. Now, those who were previously deprived have access to conveniences and appliances, etc. They have jumped from the 14th Century to the 22nd Century in the last year.
There is no plan in Iraq. They didn't have a plan. What is the plan? No planning for the occupation. I still haven't heard a plan from this administration.
WOOHOO!!!
Thanks for the good news!!!
Poor, poor Dan Rather, Christiane Amanpour, etc... the big names had all been planning fancy trips to Iraq to cover the transfer and bash America in the spotlight LOL
