I don't know why Freepers get off thinking that this will be a box office bust & this is best ignored. Moore is a master propagandist and he knows exactly how to use disinformation to persuade sheeple. This film will break box office rewards and if we do not rise to it, it will have the potential to alter the election.
it won't be breaking any box office records, let's not exaggerate that aspect of it.
Yep! Even the TV ads are misleading, as one ad I saw implied that Moore was firebrand to both conservatives and liberals, alike....giving the impression that he's an objective source.
It would be a good idea to compile a debunking "script" about the movie.
USA Today, for once, said it well. This movie will turn existing Bush haters into more virulent Bush haters. I do not see it having too much of an effect on swing voters - however, it is part of a broader effort to try and chip at swing voters a few at a time - hence the broad-scale liberal offensive - if the liberals send out thousands of propaganda messages and each of them move a few voters, then eventually it amounts to a measurable change.
What we need to do is to quit worrying so much about idealogical rifts within the right wing and make sure that we counter the B.S. wherever and whenever it is spewed, to push affected swing voters back into the Bush column. Freepers are for the most part superb wordsmiths - and we all need to saturate the media and the blogsphere with letters that counter Moore's propaganda and paint the liberals, not Bush, as the liars. And, since the libs are basically trying to re-write the past, the best approach is to do a bit of research and resurrect the history that the libs are trying to hard to forget - and use the liberal's own words to discredit them.
Only dedicated leftists go to see his lame propaganda. Oh and everybody in France.
I don't think that this is that big of a deal. Let's say that this film does $50MM at the box office. At an average ticket price of $6, that means that 8.3M people will have seen the movie. Now the only people I know that are even remotely interested in seeing it are hardcore lefties. Lets say that a full 1/3 of the people seeing the movie are "undecided" that means that about 2.7M people. Lets assume that 90% of these people both enjoy the movie and are also so brain dead that they don't see it as pure propaganda. So Moore changed 2.4M votes.
Personally I don't think that it will make $50M, I think the average ticket will be way closer to $10, I think that the percentage of "undecided"'s will be closer to 5% and think that it will turn off a lot of people. Additionally, a significant amount of the revenue for this movie will come from NYC, LA, SF, Boston, DC and Chicago, places where the President has very little chance of winning anyway.
All in all if Moore spends $20M on convincing a couple million lefties to vote Kerry, who cares. Its about the equivalent of Err America, and who's worrying about that?
The theater number are growing now....it will have an impact.
Likely a temporary one, but it will have an impact.
It won't be a box office bust because every night on the freakin local news channels their talking about it and promoting it. It's DISGUSTING.
"I don't know why Freepers get off thinking that this will be a box office bust & this is best ignored."
I heard MM today on TV whole-heartedly thank all the films detractors as they have provided publicity worth millions. I say ignore it. Don't even mention the name of it. Prepare your rebuttal for when some whinner brings up a talking point from it, but otherwise it is best to ignore it. MM said if not for people like us his film would have no publicity. He was laughing at us. Don't give him the satisfaction.
