If you had asked a citizen of Japan or Nagasaki in late August 1945 if they wanted to keep fighting the Americans I promise you that you would have heard a large NO.
More people died in the firebombing raid on Tokyo than died in either of the A-bomb cities. The Japanese did not surrender. Nor did they surrender as a result of the the fire bombing campaign that began in early 1945.
They surrendered because the emperor said "enough."
