I heard on the radio this morning that the Archbishop of Tucson announced that it looked like the dioscese would have to file for bankruptcy( first in the nation) over the lawsuits involved. Perhaps that's under discussion in Denver as well.

Search around for an Anglican use church in your area and you can have the best of both worlds. Also look for a Traditional Latin Mass.

Yeah -- I meant to say "the Hierarchy of the Catholic Church," at least in the U.S. I think Dreher's comment hints that it's more than just Americans, though.

Maybe it's something along the lines of what happened in California back in the 1970s with some members of the crew that had been filming the movie "Apocalypse Now" in the Philippines.

According to the author of "Good Bye, Good Men," the reason is that gays and lesbians, and/or their sympathizers, gained key posts in diocesan agencies responsible for screening of applicants to the priesthood. Applicants with traditional Catholic values were deliberately screened out, and only extreme liberals - including many homosexuals - were allowed to proceed towards ordination. Very few people were involved in the process, so it was easily manipulated towards their ends, and there was little if any oversight by people who might have put a stop to it.

I have not changed my story with the exception that, without going back to look, I said that Father John said "we" could not receive the sacrament anymore. That is the generic we of an 7 year old who was too young to attend church alone without a parent accompanying her.

Sounds like your mother could still take you to church, where you could receive Holy Communion. But that's not as dramatic, and you want the Church to look bad, ~~keeping 7-year-olds from the eucharist, keeping Iraqis under Saddam, encouraging priests to abuse children~~ it's a load of ****.

Your accusations are a disgrace and have made me more upset than I've ever been on Free Republic.

*sigh* I honestly don't understand why you would stay with the Episcopal Church (allowing abortion, supporting gay marriage, ordaining a bishop who left his family and lives in a sinful lifestyle with another man, etc.), knowing what you know about the Catholic Church, esp. if you are so bothered by these things. Are they easier to live with than the cruelty of one man when you were seven years old?

Bitterness will not help you in life, directed at anyone. I know it seems like a lot, but I think you have got to forgive that priest and stop being so angry with the Church. He was a man, who can and did sin, just as everyone else in the world can and does. He is not the Church, the people as a whole are.

If you really miss the Mother Church, why not come home to Her? Why not forgive that priest and consider it? It pains me to see people leave the Church because of other people.

That's a strawman argument. No argument with God. Just the spokespeople within the church who think they have the moral authority to comment on the war. They can't even get their own house in order.

The New Testament warns us to not be like the Sadducees and Pharisees of their day. Essentially spending every day dispensing moral judgements while not having their own lives and houses in order.

It's patently ridiculous to expect the Church on earth to be perfect. We are sinners, of course, but it's still God's truth we proclaim, which is perfect. And that's where the authority comes from.

That they have let priests sexually abuse children? Nope. THat isn't a lie. It came out in their hearings that they KNOWLINGLY moved "problem" priests. Moved them so they could abuse sexually more unsuspecting children.

You want to defend that? Go right ahead.

Peach, can you point to any post by any freeper that actually defends the abuse of children by anyone, be they priest, bishop or other? Theres a difference between defending the divine institution that is the Church and defending those who serve as her administrators. Don't let your emotions cloud your ability to see clearly.
