Tenn. Federal Judge Backs Fortunetellers NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A federal judge struck down a law requiring fortunetellers to post disclaimers on their shops and advertisements, calling the ordinance an unconstitutional restriction on free speech. U.S. District Court Judge Robert Echols, ruling in favor of former tarot card reader Beth Daly and the American Civil Liberties Union, rejected the city of Dickson's argument that its law was intended to protect citizens from fraud. Echols cited earlier rulings that determined "predictions are only fraudulent if the speaker knows of facts that will prevent a prediction from coming true." Daly said Tuesday...

"How does this play out if they wait until just prior to the election to hit us? It's conceivable (shudder) that Kerry could win the election. Then what? I see Kerry throwing out the baby with the bathwater."

Most recent presidential campaigns involve some type of "October surprise" (or the threat thereof). It would be as difficult to predict the political effects of an attack in the days before an election as it is to predict last minute allegations/revelations/smears. (In 2000, it was the DWI story that broke over the weekend). If people initially believe that "no one could have seen it coming", then they may rally around the flag. If it is something that has been widely discussed, or worse, attempted before (planes into buildings; OKC truck bomb; etc) then they would be less understanding. If one side tries to play it for political points (like the 2002 Wellstone funeral), then the first to appear to do that is toast. That is what happened in Madrid.

Madrid is more complicated than it is made out to be. The Spanish were against the Iraq War before 3/11. It is not as if they turned on a dime. And Aznar's party was holding a bare lead going into the final days despite the antiwar sentiment.

The problem was mainly that the ruling party tried to pass the attack off on ETA. It was perceived as a clumsy last-minute "cover-up" designed to keep the war off the table as an issue. It began to leak out it was probably al Qaeda, and then they did what all electorates do when you lie to them, they throw you out.

They "played" the story or spun it to make it seem they were more interested in winning the election (by deflecting public attention from al Qaeda to ETA) than finding the real culprits and protecting the Spanish people. The right people lost because they did wrong things.

What happens if Kerry wins?

It will be impossible for Kerry to cut and run. He may be the most liberal Senator in DC, but he is not Dean or Kucinich. Getting us out of Iraq was not the premise of his campaign. He would take the war in a different (and misguided) direction perhaps. He is not committed to democratic transformation in the Mideast, so I think he has missed the boat from the start. If we don't change the rules of the game, we cannot win. So this President has changed the rules (regime change and democratic transformation). If Kerry thinks we can go back to the failed "multilateralism" of the previous administration and try to deal with the threat on the margins, then we will face even more attacks in coming years than we already face now.

There is a difference between carping from the sidelines and actually having to do the job. If he wins, he may find that he may not control events so much as events control him. But I am not sure we can afford "on the job training".

The thing that has concerned me for months is that Kerry may run to the right of the President on defense and homeland security. That is how JFK beat Nixon with the "missile gap". I see signs this is happening already.

Sigh.

When someone asks me what my "sign" is,

I tell them:

"The Cross."

"The trial was scheduled to resume Monday"

Don't look for Dallas judges/juries to go easy on these guys. The only tougher venue for them would be Houston.

Hence Hillary's warning of the October Surprise.

Couple that remark with all the scheduled protester events; I imagine we are in the clear until October.

IMO, something was suppose to happen. But something didn't. As to whether that something was thwarted or a chess piece was played differently; well, we will never know.

Since the G8 was uneventful...and Reagan's memories were honored pretty much uneventful...I'm confident in saying, nothing but speculatory events until October. International? Don't know. Domestic. I'm now sure.

You are correct. If Kerry went 180 and started to bad mouth Islam and blame Islam for terrorism and labeled Islam as terrorist the tide would change in his favor. GW needs to be a little more forceful in his talks when he mentions Islam cuz if Kerry does it first, he gets the lead in saying it, especially if we get hit again.

I just got home from a really long day, helping with graduation and meeting a very old friend just in from D.C. I want to thank you for the "tidbits" you sent me. I had to cut and paste them onto a document for study. It looks fascinating. Thread nine is now locked and I need to keep up with whats going on, so I'll take this extraordinary document a piece at a time. Thank you, again.

"China to attack Taipei in 2006? Official, expert agree strike is coming...."

This neatly ties in with the End of Days scenario in that book I've been reading called The Bible Code 2. Interesting. As I may have mentioned on the last thread, the book was written by a non-Christian who keeps asserting that he feels the end of the world may be averted by the actions of man if we'll only heed the warnings in the Bible Code. He further asserts that when it does go everybody dies a horrible death. I think this guy falls into the false prophet area, but it's equally interesting that the year 2006 keeps floating to the surface.

6/10/04 The Associated Press - Atlanta

U.S. Army major attacked on subway train by man wearing turban, robe

A man wearing a white turban and a flowing white robe punched and beat a uniformed U.S. Army major on a subway train outside the Atlanta airport Thursday, authorities said.
The unidentified serviceman, whose unit has done missions in Kuwait and Iraq, was treated by medical personnel and released.

The suspect, Saffo Davis, 42, a Michigan native with a District of Columbia identification card, was arrested at the station outside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and charged with four counts of battery and four counts of obstruction.

A clear motive for the 11:17 a.m. attack, including whether it was related to the victim's military service, was not known. The suspect mumbled something to the Army major just before the attack, but the exact words were unclear, said Gene Wilson, police chief for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, which runs the subway.

"Right now, he's not at a point where we can get anything out of him that makes sense," Wilson said of the suspect.

Wilson added, "This guy has fought the police on several occasions while in custody. He had to be taken to jail with a towel on his head because he was spitting at everybody."

The beating victim is a member of the 3rd U.S. Army, based at Fort McPherson, said spokesman Gary Jones. He was on his way to see family at the time of the attack, Jones said.

As the serviceman was being assaulted, a woman on the southbound train tried to intervene by hitting the suspect over the head with her pocketbook. The suspect then knocked the woman unconscious, Wilson said. The woman did not suffer serious injuries.

The suspect then fled onto the northbound subway train and got into an altercation with a third person, Wilson said.

Davis was being held at the Clayton County Sheriff's Department pending a court hearing.

I know nothing about the Masons or their beliefs except I knew one woman who was a "Masonic Rainbow Girl" in her youth (who I have lost contact with).

Hello dear public and officials . . .

Please go to 7/11 and buy a bushel of brains!!!!

Turban, USA Army . . .

This is NOT rocket science!!!

Sigh.

Maybe some cultures deserve to die!

Thankfully, it's only part of our culture . . . a sadly growing part.

He is still being held on immigration charges. If he has the $$$ and an attorney with know-how, he'll skate free and clear of all charges.

Does anyone remember when the words "and justice for all" had meaning and when judges and juries were people we respected?

Ahhhh. My mistake. Sorry.

The closer friends I've had who were Masons, used to brag about the fixes Masonic judges arranged for their Masonic brothers.
