June 8, 2004 - The George Bush Forty-One Endowment today announced that it would open a free public viewing area for President George Bush's parachute jump on the grounds of the Bush Library and Museum on the campus of Texas A&M University next Sunday, June 13th. It is estimated that this free public viewing area will have space for 5,000 individuals. General public parking opens at 10:00am.
The 41st President is making this solo parachute jump the day after his 80th birthday as part of a "41@80" weekend of events. The United States Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, is participating in the jump as part of their mission to promote military service. Actor Chuck Norris and journalist Brit Hume of the Fox News Network will also participate

I love Brit Hume. Way to go!
CNN must be on suicide watch.
Yes, it's true.
Watched 41 on LKL last night.
He's making another jump.
LKL siad "his doctor's won't permit him
to jump," but he's emcee for the festivities.
He has been planning this for a long time. About 6 months ago, I heard Barbara Bush say that "this will be his last jump"...either way!
I'm taking my Mom to the event. Hope the weather cooperates!
It's gonna be televised y'all! :0)
praying for safety and clear skies here...
Can we get Klintoon and Karter out there....but without a chute? Use them as concussion bombs...all of that hot air coming out, it would be worse thana MOAB blast!
It's all Bush's fault.
Oh...
wait...it is.
I love Brit Hume. Way to go!
Absolutely! He and the Fox News team handled the procession and funeral very well last night, but the best part was the aside when he noticed that a dog had jumped into a fountain towards the end of the procession. Then the camera panned to the dog and its tail was wagging, and he commented that the dog's tail was wagging, and he almost chuckled saying, "and why shouldn't it?"
I enjoyed seeing George and Barbara Bush on Larry King together last night. You can tell by the way they interact and respond to one another that they have a very strong relationship. The former President Bush has done two or three jumps since leaving office (and of course he jumped "for real" while serving in the military.) I also found it poignant when, as part of the discussion of the day Reagan was shot in 1981, Larry asked the President if he'd ever thought about assassination and he said not so much when he was in office but he worries about it a lot now. He refers to his son as "the President" when talking about him but made it clear that (like any parent) it doesn't matter that his son is the leader of the free world now, that's still his little boy.
I foresee a GWB fighter-jet/aircraft carrier landing when he turns 80. Like father, like son.
Gotta disagree..FOX was awful yesterday...The announcers need to know when to just shut up and let the pictures do the talking...when the hearse arrived at Pt Mugu for transfer to the plane, the idiot announcer had a guest talking about his/her experiences as Ambassador to Iceland..I swtichged over to MSNBC,a nd they were excellent..until Matthews came on..Brit had a lot of errors and misspoken comments yesterday, but I suspect he was quite emotional..so I'll give him a pass..
Flying Bushes Bump :-]
Unfortunately, I don't get Fox news on my limited cable system. CNN does come in, but it's not supposed to. The coverage I was impressed, though, with CSPAN's coverage. No commentator, no one talking when they shouldn't have been, just live feed.
and C-span doesn't have the clutter, the scrolls, and the bugs, that take up half the screen..
I didn't get to start watching until sometime after 6pm, so I didn't see what you did at Pt Mugu, but I agree that inapplicable chatter is annoying so your point is well taken.
I didn't catch too many misstatements by the time I got there but also agree that it's emotional. It's also taxing and extraordinary to be on for hours without any interruptions.
I'm glad that you liked MSNBC, but I was happy with Fox News.
This has got to be somewhat stressful on her and on the family.
Hehehe, I'm sure you've hear the joke about a plane going down, 5 passengers, 4 parachutes. The Girlscout says to George Bush, "Oh, don't worry. Take a parachute, the smartest woman in the world just jumped with my Girlscout pack."
