By the way, has any one noticed the date? Its three months BEFORE the anniversary of 9/11.
Exactly. I was struck by the date. Invert it and you have two of the greatest tragedies in our country's history. 6/11 is the date we mourn the passing of a great American and a great President. Invert the 6 and we have the date Islamofascist terrorists attacked our country and slaughtered 3,000 Americans in cold blood. Such is the judgment of Providence.

My recollection of the 80's and the criticism of Regan was that it was extremely viscous. I'm still looking for some of the Knoopaki cartoons that used to run in The Capital Times in Madison Wisconsin in that time frame. He was depicted as this sinister, bloodthirsty creature - preying on the poor and endangering our country. The caricature was downright nasty.

Pity anyone who failed to be moved...
Nancy Reagan's last day with her husband began with a poignant visit to the Capitol in Washington and ended a continent away when she caressed her beloved husband's flag-draped coffin and whispered "I love you" to him one last time.
It also served to introduce him to a new generation.
And so the world realizes what most of us knew the moment we first heard him speak.
What I admire most about Ronald Reagan is his spine. He never crumbled, he never gave in. He didn't play PC, he didn't bend over for the Democrats. He stood tall, with dignity and got his way.
I rather like the placement of the "No Left Turn" sign above the protestors...irony is so much fun.

The media who have been pounding the drum on Iraq have suddenly been reminded of their similar behavior during the Reagan administration, and how unfair that turned out to be - Bernard Shaw and Wolf Blitzer admitted as much. The parallel between the hostility toward a Republican president then and their hostility toward a Republican president now is so unmistakable that Bush's people don't even need to point it out.

Old timers (like me) should click on the Andrew Sullivan link to read some great quotes from the "intellectuals" in the press back in the early 1980s. I especially like the one from "Princeton Professor Stephen Cohen", that slimy looking bastard was all over the news back then trashing Reagan. Seems like history has proven that the actor/cowboy/dimwit was smarter than the vaunted Ivy League professor!

I don't have a lot to say, besides posting links, about Mr. Reagan, because he was tied so inexorably to those I call "my poor dead babies" ( my Mom & Dad, my first wife ) who gave so much to get him into office, and keep him there.
It calls back so many memories of a different time, mostly good- but those memories have a scourge that comes with them, and I prefer to let them rest in peace when they can.
Mr. Reagan, the Pope, and Lady Thatcher remade the world. God bless them.
