Off-duty deputy having a beer videotaped

Staff report Last update: 03 June 2004

BUNNELL -- A videotape submitted anonymously to a local television station shows the Flagler County sheriff's chief deputy drinking alcohol off duty in a public park where drinking is prohibited.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debra Johnson said Wednesday the 90-minute tape showed Mark Maronski in civilian clothes drinking one beer at the Flagler County Fairgrounds with other adults after an adult softball game and driving home in his personal vehicle.

She acknowledged the park doesn't allow drinking.

The official Sheriff's Office response was short and direct:

"Sheriff Manfre has counseled his personnel concerning appropriate off-duty behavior. At this time we are concerned about the mental well-being of this person in our county who is apparently trying to secretly videotape activities at the county recreational areas."

Oh, give me a break. If that off duty chief deputy had been secretly videotaped smoking a joint at the county recreational area you wouldn't be saying that!
Just another anonymous tip from a good Citizen doing their part "for the good of the children" and the good deputy would be out on his backside in a heartbeat...

This officer was off-duty and was having just one beer, from the looks of the article.

Whomever videotaped him is obviously a sicko doing some serious projecting.

And a very fine job they do too! The instant replay evidence that they provide to police in the likes of town/city centres is invaluable. They have also been instrumental in the convictions of terrorists.

You bring up a good point.

Alcohol is very legal, so there is no grounds for this officer to be punished for it.

I am not against cameras in public, but I am against this snitch culture when they are used against social drinkers.

Yep. Then he scratched himself in public. *GASP!*

Or worse yet, they have him on tape emptying his bladder but shaking it more than twice and morals charges are in the works.

I enjoy watching Andy Griffith, but the fact that Mayberry was dry, was sad.

What was the alcoholic's name who came to sleep it off in the jail on the show?

Prohibition has been coming back steadily since about 1978. Have you seen signs of it as well?

Indeed. In my hometown of Reston, Virginia, the cops came INTO a sedate and swanky bar, gave breathalyzer tests and arrested people for being intoxicated. There was no altercation or problem beforehand to cause them to enter. It was just a sweep.

Here's the ABC news link.

My God! A free man having a beer on his own time is the subjects of a massive hate and destruction campaign.

Second Amendment time people BEFORE we lose it all!

Wonder what this videotaper would think of Oktoberfest!

Alcohol is very legal, so there is no grounds for this officer to be punished for it.
The only reason that any of this even came up is because it happened in "a public park where drinking is prohibited".
If he would've been in a bar, having just one beer, or having drank said beer at his home, it wouldn't have ever come up.

..."To many older women, drinking is the worst crime there is"....

Nice of you to assume that it was an older woman.

But it is still very petty of a voyeur person to tape it and turn him in.
