Is he a slow talker by nature or is it an affectation to make him sound important?

If you mean Nelson, I think it's clearly an affectation. Can you imagine him and Kerry on a ticket. We'd all fall asleep before we could puke.

I remember him from years ago, and he didn't always talk so slow.

I think he thinks that makes him sound like a great orator... He finds himself mesmerizing.

Everytime I hear that ponderous, droning voice of his I'm reminded of the Rev Jim Ignikowsky (sp) from the sitcom Taxi.
