When serving pelican at a formal function, should I splurge for some white wine, or do I stay with the more familiar Ripple?

If you drink the whole bottle of Ripple or whatever ya got, the pelican ain't bad afterward ;o)

For formal occasions (eatin' on sumpthin' other than paper plates) most consider pelican seafood and go with an expensive white wine ($2-$3) ;o)
