we'd be just like them and that isn't the way Americans do things. We're waging an American style war, a 21st century war. In WWII we fire bombed Dresden and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. In Hiroshima and Nagasaki we did likewise. So yes, when pushed to it, Americans do these things. As far as the 21st century war you describe, I would feel better about it's success if there were a historical example of it working.

There is no comparison to the actions that were necessary against Dresden, Nagasaki and Hiroshima during WWII and having to eradicate pockets of tenacious insurgents in Iraq today. As far as a historical example of an effective 21st century war ..... well, uh, there wouldn't be one yet.... cause.... its new.... seewhatImean ?
