Just curious. Will the fact of the closeness of this race perhaps bring some pressure to bear on Specter if he wins? Wouldn't he have to acknowledge the conservatism of his constituents if they vote for Toomey in such large numbers?

What I can say is that he has never cared except in election years, so in 5 years, yeah maybe he will feel some pressure ;-)
Bottom line is that the GOP is a house divided against itself with (R)len in it, and it needs to exorcise him.
