Early Returns for Toomey/Specter Race (Exit Polling)
National Review Magazine ^ | April 27, 2004 | Katherine Jean Lopez-Asst. Editor National Review

MESSAGE OF THE AFTERNOON/EVENING TO PENNSYLVANIA CONSERVATIVES

Get out and vote Toomey.

I am kind of surprised about the reports that US Rep. Toomey seems to be carrying Lancaster County by a slim margin, 52-48

Toomey needs to rack up a good margin in Lancaster County, so that he can afford to bleed a little on Specter turf in Philly.

So if youre a Penn. Republican, quit reading the Corner and go vote Toomey.

Toomey also needs huge margins in York and Harrisburg to offset anticipated Specter wins in the Philly surburbs.

Will the fact of the closeness of this race perhaps bring some pressure to bear on Specter if he wins? Wouldn't he have to acknowledge the conservatism of his constituents if they vote for Toomey in such large numbers?

Specter has always been For Sale, normally I would say no, but with him its hard to say. What I can say is that he has never cared except in election years, so in 5 years, yeah maybe he will feel some pressure ;-)

Bottom line is that the GOP is a house divided against itself with (R)len in it, and it needs to exorcise him.

Wish that were the case.

Was talking to a reporter the other day who told me that Nan Aron, president of the uber-liberal Alliance for Justice, said to him that they really didn't see much difference between Specter and Hatch as chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Sent a cold chill up my spine.

I have no interest in getting in a flame war with you over a race I don't even find remotely interesting.

Then why do you keep pontificating on this thread? Come on, just because my sarcasm zipped over your head and you looked like a dullard doesn't mean you should feel sad. Then again, given your pessimism about this RINO being challenged, I could see how missing that would put you in the dumps :-(

Remember to call someone if you ever reach "Elevated"

Still hanging on to your prophetic ability I see. Well I'd wish you good luck, but I would be contradicting everything in my soul I know is good and right.

Patriot News: "Magic Bullet" was early sign of Specter's Independence Streak

"When I finished my discourse, the chief justice remained silent," Specter wrote. "After a moment, he turned on his heel and stepped away, still saying nothing."

But when the commission voted to approve the theory for its report -- some said the theory won 4-3, others 5-2 -- it did so because Warren had adopted Specter's explanation.

The commission's "Single-Bullet Theory" at least temporarily tamped down the public's panic, defusing fears of domestic conspiracies and Cold War-motivated, foreign-sponsored assassins.....

A Toomey win will only energize the Dem base.

And you suppose the conservative base will stay home?

Whether or not Snarlin is successful in hanging on in the primary, he has burned up his $10 million warchest and is finished in the general election.

Well said, my man! Either way you look at it Specter's political career is toast. Conservatives would be fools to support him in the general if he unfortunately wins the primary. And we all know that liberals aren't going to support Specter when they can get out-and-out socialism from Hoeffel.

He's in his last term. Have you ever known a liberal to be humble(d)?

Who would Specter have had to answer to if Toomey hadn't run?

I presume Toomey ran because he wanted to win, not just create an exercise in accountability.

Was 'pfft' the sound of you sticking your head up your ass? There was no parallel Presidential race going on during the California gubernatorial election, so your comparison means NOTHING.

Listen to John. He's got more sense than you'll probably ever know.
