Kerry did not know his grandparents. His grandfather committed soooeycide in a hotel restroom. Blew his brains out. In the old Joe Kennedy neighborhood. Boston.com has a really long series on Kerry's past, including his family history.

"Kerry did not know his grandparents"

Kerry can't get even this simple story straight.

According to the BBC on line, " Profile : John Kerry, " by Paul Reynolds, 02/25/04

" John Kerry says he remembers his grandmother as a practising Catholic. Although born Jewish, she had later converted."

His paternal grandmother, Ida Lowe Kerry died in 1960, when Kerry was 17. She came to America, at age 28, with her husband and firstborn son,( age unknown by me ) Kerry's uncle. My maternal grandmother died when I was 10 and I can still remember her lilting Irish voice.
So, I don't buy for one minute, that Kerry didn't realize that his grandmother and uncle were not Irish and that he couldn't recognize an Austrian accent. If one believes Kerry, than he must think Arnold Schwarzenegger is from County Mayo.
Your comment about the grandfather committing suicide reminds me-Kerry has a history suggesting depression and post traumatic stress disorder.
Might be a hereditary condition, but, since Kerry refuses to release his medical records, we can only speculate.
